Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Today we begin the Study of the Book of Isaiah. It is a long Book (66 Chapters) so this will take a few months. Since Isaiah's Ministry lasted over 60 years and served a number of kings, his style of writing evolved so much that some "scholars" tried to put forth the idea that Isaiah was at least two people, maybe more! They even dubbed Chapters 40 to the end as "Deutero Isaiah" (Second Isaiah) and attempted to posit that the second part of the Book was written many years later. (I have been wring songs since the 1960's, and my 60's songs bear ABSOLUTELY NO resemblance to what I write now, so that is a silly premise, but I digress) The discovery of the nearly intact Scroll of Isaiah found among the Dead Sea Scrolls quickly disabused the liberal scholars of that notion. It was almost word-for-word a match for the accepted Hebrew Texts of today. So, the Essenes were careful to preserve the Word as given through one prophet, named Isaiah.

The writers of the Gospels, the Book of Acts, and the Epistles quote Isaiah a lot. They never differentiated between one Isaiah or the other. Jesus of Nazareth quoted a lot of Scripture, but His two favorites seemed to be Isaiah and Deuteronomy.

Here is Wikipedia's take on it:

Isaiah (US /aɪˈzeɪ.ə/ or UK /aɪˈzaɪ.ə/;[3] Hebrew: יְשַׁעְיָהוּ, Modern Yeshayahu, Tiberian Yəšạʻyā́hû; Syriac: ܐܹܫܲܥܝܵܐ‎ ˀēšaˁyā; Greek: Ἠσαΐας, Ēsaïās; Latin: Isaias; Arabic: إشعيا As̲h̲aʿyāʾ or S̲h̲aʿyā;[4] "Yah is salvation"[5]) was the 8th century BCE Jewish prophet who gave his name to the Book of Isaiah.[6][7] The exact relationship between the Book of Isaiah and any such historical Isaiah is complicated.[a] The traditional view is that all 66 chapters of the book of Isaiah were written by one man, Isaiah--possibly in two periods between 740 BCE and c. 686 BCE, separated by approximately 15 years--and includes dramatic prophetic declarations of Cyrus the Great in the Bible, acting to restore the nation of Israel from exile in Babylon. One widespread view sees parts of the first half of the book (chapters 1–39) as originating with the historical prophet, interspersed with prose commentaries written in the time of King Josiah a hundred years later; with the remainder of the book dating from immediately before and immediately after the end of the exile in Babylon, almost two centuries after the time of the original prophet.

Jews and Christians consider the Book of Isaiah a part of their Biblical canon; he is the first listed (although not the earliest) of the "Nevi'im Aharonim", the latter prophets.[8]

As a way of Introduction, I have listed the Old Testament references to this Wonderful prophet as our Scripture portion(s)for today. As we compare Scripture to Scripture, we can see that Isaiah was one man who served his kings and his One King for over 60 years. He has more than enough "documentation" to identify himself in the vast panorama of biblical History.

Rom. 11:1, 2a

I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew.

Thank You, Lord God for this revelation that You foreknewYour people before the foundations of the world. And that You know how to continually keep them and uphold them in strength.

Bless You, Lord God, Maker of all things.

Thank You for providing the prophets, especially Isaiah.

Amen.

“However, He finds fault with them when He says, Behold, the days will come, says the Lord, when I will make and ratify a new covenant or agreement with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant that I made with their forefathers on the day when I grasped them by the hand to help and relieve them and to lead them out from the land of Egypt, for they did not abide in My agreement with them, and so I withdrew My favor and disregarded them, says the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will imprint My laws upon their minds, even upon their innermost thoughts and understanding, and engrave them upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. And it will nevermore be necessary for each one to teach his neighbor and his fellow citizen or each one his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for all will know Me, from the smallest to the greatest of them. (Hebrews 8:8-11 AMP)”

Father God, we yearn for that day and repeat Your promise back to You that this day would come soon to Israel. Thank You for Your faithful promises in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thank you, LTOS, for tackling this book on our behalf. It will be a marvelous journey.
