Cardinal Burke: Vatican hosting pro-abort population control activist was ‘simply a scandal’

Cardinal Raymond Burke said it's "simply a scandal" that pro-abortion and pro-contraception population control activist Paul Ehrlich was given a platform at a recent Vatican conference.

Burke was speaking on Friday to a standing room only crowd at St. Raymond of Peñafort Catholic Church as part of its distinguished speaker series. He fielded questions at the end of his talk.

He was asked about how "Paul Ehrlich, a great defender of abortion and a sworn enemy of the Church, was recently given a platform at a Vatican conference." Ehrlich's speech has caused confusion and has Catholics wondering what's going on in the Vatican, the questioner said.

"It’s simply a scandal," said Burke. "I’m scandalized by it and I don’t see how any good Catholic wouldn’t be scandalized by that. I don’t understand it."

He continued, "These days especially, when fundamental truths about human life and the family are getting called into question in our society in most egregious ways, and I think especially our children and young people are being subjected to this…to let such people who have no grounding whatsoever in the truth of the faith [speak at the Vatican] – it just takes my breath away."

Ehrlich has compared human babies to garbage, said every sexually active woman needs "free access" to abortion and contraception, and said the Catholic Church's moral teachings are "just as unethical" as a "terrorist act." He has defended mass forced sterilization and even forced abortion.

Ehrlich, along with John Bongaarts of the Population Council, spoke at the Biological Extinction Conference last month despite outcry from pro-life activists. The conference was sponsored by the Pontifical Academy of the Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.

Bongaarts told the Vatican conference attendees there is an "unmet need for contraception and family planning" and reducing birth rates would help the environment. Ehrlich praised Pope Francis for his environmentalism. Ehrlich later criticized LifeSite and "right wing Catholic websites" for opposing his invitation.

It was at this same conference that Bishop Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo, the Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, said "we don't know exactly" what the Church teaches about procreation. "Education" will help women have one or two children instead of seven, Sorondo said.

Burke exhorted the faithful to remain true to the teachings of the Church despite rampant confusion. He reminded them of an excellent resource of clarity, the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Burke also addressed transgenderism, Catholic history, the sacred liturgy, and why so many young people are drawn to the Traditional Latin Mass.

I’m pretty sure that Christ has never been interested in limiting the number of souls who would join him in Heaven.

Let them nail their arguments to the Cathedral Doors.

So many things happening in the Church these days give me pause.

I wonder if people have noticed that the Church says stop having large families while Imams instruct their populations to have scores of children to take over their countries.

We’re doomed-maybe it’s all part of getting to the tribulation.

Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

Mark 10:14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

Luke 18:16 But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 17 “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

There are extra-Biblical indications as well. No one has ever reported seeing a child in Sheol, Hell, or Hades. Several people have reported death-return experiences where they met and talked to siblings who were still born or miscarried.

Well, I was born and raised an Episcopalian, but I converted to the Catholic Church while I was in college—at Harvard, of all places.

As far as I’m concerned, the Church is the Church, no matter how much nonsense is being pushed by the liberal Cardinals and the crazy Pope. As long as we have the Sacraments I’ll continue to go, although I feel extremely sorry for all those poor souls who have been pushed out of it by liberal pastors.

The Church has been through bad times before, and hopefully God will pull it together again unless these really are the End Times.

As for Pope Francis, I don’t think he’d be happy to know that my wife and I, who have been married for 55 years, have 13 children and 18 grandchildren. No great grandchildren yet, we have to rely on the kids for that.

Bergoglio is pro-abortion. He is a sock puppet of the globalist pro-abortion Marxist jihad.

Thank you, Cicero.

Often those who have converted, be it Faith or citizenship, have a clearer picture than those of us born to it.

Yes, thankfully we still have the Sacraments- you are correct. I think my breaking point would come if the Transubstantiation were ever modified in the pursuit of creating a Universal church. The word catholic does mean universal, but diluting our beliefs in hopes of making a ‘bigger club’ would definitely shake my confidence in the current Pope (but my faith is not in men).
We’ve had bad Popes before, who are, after all, only men.

But the Holy Spirit gives the Church what she needs, so who knows.

Whenever it is-Happy Grandparents Day-we’re hoping for a few ourselves!

"Scandal" is one area of Catholic thought which has completely fallen by the wayside, especially during this pontificate.

If one reads the writings of former popes of the 20th century and indeed earlier centuries, one is struck by the fact that the issue of "scandal" was always very prominent in their writings. That is to say, they were always extremely solicitous of nurturing the faith of the laity and avoiding anything which might have damaged or harmed that faith. The foundation of this concern was charity.

Francis, on the other hand, ridicules, scorns and abuses those who cling to the Catholic faith of their fathers and is spectacularly unconcerned about providing a forum for the Church's enemies to spout their poison and scandalize the faithful. One is forced to conclude that he lacks charity and hates traditional Catholicism.
