European Court Upholds Employer’s Ban on All Workplace Religious Displays

The European Court of Justice has ruled that an employer can ban the wearing of the Islamic veil, but the court’s ruling could also be used to justify a ban on the wearing of a crucifix or other Christian religious item.

In a case that arose when a Belgian firm fired a Muslim woman for continuing to wear her veil, the Court ruled that a workplace rule was not discriminatory because it did not single out any religious faith. The firm had set a policy that prohibited employees from wearing “in the workplace visible signs of political, philosophical, or religious beliefs.”

They can always go to a Muslim controlled country and get a job ,wait are women allowed to work in Muslim controlled countries

Fair is fair. Hard to argue with the ruling. Now, could one say no signs of support or affiliation with terrorists, which would mean signs and support of Islam?

Oh yes Europe, make religion something only held in secret, that will keep the foundations of Europe “safe”. NOT.

The “separation of church and state” is to keep government out of favoring A RELIGION, as in a “state religion”. The concept is not about transferring that restriction to anything private, to any private association. Taking the restrictions against government into force by private entities makes private entities mere extensions of government, not free, not possessing Liberty at all.

On the other hand, a private person or entity DOES HAVE THE RIGHT, in their Liberty, to control conduct and behavior in activities that come under their private control, such as employment. If a private entity wants to ban display of some type of ideas in the course of the employees work, they have a right to condition work on the acceptance of that ban.

However, doing so, seems, in Europe, to be a case of the private sector taking on the enforced “secularism” of government, as an extension of rules applied by government.
