Believe it or not, my understanding is that Putin has a great deal of reverence for the Orthodox Church. Hearing this may actually give him pause.

The church generally doesn’t make a move like this without talking to Putin first as is normal with state religions, so I’d expect this was approved. Putin may or may not be a sincere in his faith, but he is clearly using the faith to push Russia in a more traditional direction. Just because someone may be a killer doesn’t mean they’re not smart enough to realize that Christianity and Traditionalism are the rocks that western civilization was built on, not liberalism.
Now I’ll just wait for ETL or elhombra to jump in explain why Putin in the Anti-Christ and how John McCain will lead us in a glorious Jihad against Putin and his evil Church.
