okay, here’s an interesting eating topic. Since the building of the ark is mentioned- what say you folks? Is the ark still around? Destroyed? Sitting in Ethiopia? When the Temple is rebuilt do you think the original ark will be returned? Just curious t hear some opinions. I for one, have no idea where it is if it is still around.
Parashat Terumah 5777, 2017: “The Purpose of the Mishkan” - Rabbi David Etengoff
“At this juncture, the Malbim describes the longing of our people to reunite with Hashem in His holy precincts:
And unto this place, [the entire nation] would turn and flock from all of the dispersed places of the world, and all of their prayers and actions would be infused with holiness as they turned their faces toward [this holy place.] As our Sages taught us in the Talmud, If one finds himself standing in the East [and he wishes to pray,] he must turn toward the West [that will then be the direction of Jerusalem and the Holy Temple]. If one finds himself standing in the West [and he wishes to pray,] he must turn toward the East [that will then be the direction of Jerusalem and the Holy Temple] we thereby find that the entire Jewish people will focus their hearts and minds upon one [manifestly sacred] place. (Talmud Bavli, Berachot 30a, translation my own)
In sum, for the Malbim, the Mishkan and the Beit Hamikdash offered the ultimate venue for the Jewish people to encounter Hashem in mystical union. Therefore, even the makom haMikdash (the location of the Beit Hamikdash) remains the place unto this day [where] the entire Jewish people focus their hearts and minds.
We Jews are an indispensable factor knitting the worlds social fabric. We have done them an enormous favor: over the centuries of conflict we have provided them a unifying focus of hatred.
Great comment. I hope this isn’t too OT for the parsha discussion but I do see a small parallel between the hatred of the Jews and the current hatred of the patriots / Trump supporters. Both groups make a point of trying to seek Good. Trying to follow the yetzer Tov. It makes the more greedy, less good people angry.
Also it is why liberal, nonpracticing Jews treat poorly their family members who attempt more mitzvot. The discomfort of guilt leads to nasty, resenting feelings and mean behavior.
Didn’t they find the ark in that WWII era documentary with Harrison Ford?
And on college campuses. It’s getting so shocking.
Does anyone else here listen to Dennis Prager? Love him.
I just thought as I get ready to serve Shabbat dinner that some don’t use Internet on Shabbat so I shouldn’t have posted on the thread and im sorry)
When the First Temple was constructed, there was an underground storage space where the Mishkan and Ark constructed in the desert were to be hidden when the Temple would be destroyed, as the prophets told Solomon it would.
It was hidden by Jeremiah, probably within the Temple Mount, since the First Temple’s destruction was imminent. The various other stories are misdirections involving replicas, usually of only the Ark when the Mishkan (Tabernacle) was actually a larger construction.
Your comment couldn't reflect reality more Skydancer.
My response is to those people is "No one misses the water until the well runs dry!"
Your commentary illuminates any thread you are on :)
How is the Jewish Community out in Nevada RWR?
Chag Purim Sameach!
After thousands of years, the wood it was made from would have turned to dust unless miraculously preserved. Even though it was gold plated, the underlying wood would decay.
That is the sweetest compliment ever. Not true, but that you said it... thanks. <3
Well I hope it hasn’t been damaged by the Arab “hosts,” who oversee the Mount. That would be a terrible loss.
Also keep your eye on the beautiful Ivanka (Yael) - there's a Purim-esque story yet to happen.
"Also it is why liberal, nonpracticing Jews treat poorly their family members who attempt more mitzvot."
True.
yw :)
When your only choices for months are chicken, ground beef & stew meat, you really miss a good NY strip.
Shavua Tov!
