Like you, I thought that Joseph had been dead for several years before Jesus started His public ministry. We know from Luke 2:41-52 that Joseph was alive when Jesus was 12. Scripture does not reveal how long Joseph was alive after he and Mary found Jesus in the temple, but evidently, some believe that Joseph was alive until just before Jesus was thirty.
