So, are they merely suggestions, according to the Pope?

What is this idiot babbling about now?

He is in his seventies and has one lung. Isn’t it time he left us and received his eternal rewards?

Pope Footnote prefers joy, so where there are Commandments and teaching of them is going on, there is rigidity.

According to Pope Footnote, the Commandments are not joyful, and rigidity is found in them. The Commandments are not joyful. They do not make you...”free”. They are not a gift.

In short, he teaches that they are a drag on his joy.

Does this guy think he is getting through to anybody? He criticizes conservative Catholics repeatedly and he isn’t really teaching Catholic teaching to any non-Catholics.

Why doesn’t he just cut to the chase. I read the article. All he had to say was Acts 16:31 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.

A person that is truly saved will want to follow the commandments (not the suggestions) as well as the new command in the New Testament John 13:34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.

I agree - and that is unusual! The 10 commandments were a part of the Old Covenant, which was totally replaced by Jesus.

Think of it this way - - The 10 commandments stood between us and a righteous God - keep them and remain in full communion with Him. As Jesus illustrated in the sermon on the mount, this was virtually impossible. However, Jesus fulfilled (completed) all of the requirements of the old covenant, and He now stands in place of the 10 commandments between us and a righteous God. And as God (the Father) looks upon us, He sees the perfection of His Son, Jesus. Thus, we - through Jesus - are fully acceptable to the Father. Thus, the 10 commandments have been made irrelevant! - replaced by the new commandment of Love - for God and each other. It really is that simple.

“God created the world and then created man, the Pope said”

Well, at least he got that right.

As for the rest of the homily, I give it two pedo bears and three Karl Marx’s.

The part of the Church that is called Protestant suffered this about 40 years ago. Leftists trying to subvert from within.

The disadvantage was that they were in smaller bodies, so it required fewer saboteurs to reach critical mass of apostasy.

The advantage is that they are not monolithic, so those suffering heretical leaders can simply leave. Or excommunicate apostates.

Catholics endured the worst of the Marxian infestation 40 years longer, but now they reach the point of critical mass, and with no outlet of being able to leave them behind. Since what I know about Catholic doctrine is that you have to be Roman Catholic or else you’re damned forever... but now it’s getting to the point where to be Roman Catholic means having to endorse mortal sins? You can’t leave but you can’t stay.

Hm.

I don’t know. My opinion: There’s either A: going to be a schism in which each side claims to be the ‘real’ church and excommunicate all the others. Which will then beg the question of what the marks of the ‘True Church’ are.

Or B: No one does anything at all and people keep pretending that everything is fine until that moment that it’s not.

For the Catholics on here (except for those who are just going to insult me), I am wondering. Is there some kind of theology for if the entire church hierarchy or at least a majority has become corrupt but there’s no way to oust them?

If you're banking on the 10 Commandments to save you you're coming up,short....there are 614 Laws one would have to keep in the OT. It's an impossible task.

Thankfully Christ died once for our sins and He has become the Redeemer of those who will have faith in Him. The Law cannot save you....only faith in Christ.

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
