To: Salvation

In my Orthodox parish, a helper (usually acolyte or adult man from the congregation) holds a napkin between the chalice and the communicant to catch any particles of the Body and Blood that might fall from the spoon. The napkins are specially cleaned later. I suppose that is like the chin paten.

Likewise, although sometimes at weekday liturgies it is entirely “self-service” with the cloth.
