But I’ve always thought it strange that Joseph just seems to disappears after Jesus is born.

Luke 2:41:

41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

Joseph was around when Jesus was growing up. Perhaps he died sometime after Jesus reached adulthood.

I didn’t know that Catholics made fun of the Virgin Mary. Live and learn!

Her FIRST son,and the Bible names the later sons ... who might just have been farmed out to uncles and aunts when Joseph died leaving a large gaggle of children for Mary to care for. These brothers and sisters are even recorded in the Bible as having come to a house where Jesus was teaching, asking for an urgent audience with Him.

“her firstborn son”
________________________________

good point...Jesus is God’s ONLY son but the Bible doesn’t say that He’s the only son of Mary...

Even the Catholic bibles say “her firstborn son”

Plus the Bible doesn’t say “her only child” or that there were no girls..

the Bible also doesn’t say Mary’s mother never had sex to concave her either...

How would that nonsense benefit Christianity..

Yes, he had brothers and sisters.....all born AFTER him..................

Correct and scriptural.

Isn’t it a known fact that Jesus had a brother?

No, the term brother was used to describe cousins.

That comment makes no sense at all. Mary wasn't the product of a virgin birth.

Mary was NOT the product of a virgin birth....she was, however, born without original sin.

One gets the impression that each of these people (and the reporters) thinks this is the first time anyone ever thought of it.

It doesn’t enhance Christianity, it empowers the oligarchy of an organization known as Catholicism. Wide roads and broad gat6es come to mind immediately.

Probably got the idea from the pope

LOL. I was going to say...I'm surprised this didn't come from the mouth of Francis. Wayward non-Catholic nuns are so yesterday.

“Look at every verse in the new testament where Jesus is talking specifically about his mother. What do you think his attitude is?”

An attitude of utmost respect and love. This is Jesus, perfect, sinless and awesome loving God who gave use the command “Honor thy father and thy mother”. The problem is our modern ears, accustomed to rudeness and disrespect hear his words with our modern biases.

His attitude toward his Mother, and his siblings was exactly the same as his attitude toward all the rest of his sheep.
