Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Book of Psalms

(Psalm 87)

Psalm 87

Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.

1 He has founded his city on the holy mountain.
2 The Lord loves the gates of Zion
    more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.

3 Glorious things are said of you,
    city of God:[a]
4 “I will record Rahab[b] and Babylon
    among those who acknowledge me—
Philistia too, and Tyre, along with Cush[c]—
    and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’”[d]
5 Indeed, of Zion it will be said,
    “This one and that one were born in her,
    and the Most High himself will establish her.”
6 The Lord will write in the register of the peoples:
    “This one was born in Zion.”

7 As they make music they will sing,
    “All my fountains are in you.”

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Left has turned "Zion" into a "four-letter-word". UN resolutions spit out the word "Zionist" with the same venom as one would say "Fascist", or "Nazi". When I was a little girl, I heard the term used derisively, and didn't know the meaning, so I looked it up. The definition in my little dictionary didn't match the hatred I had heard spewed in the word! It meant something like this:

A Jewish movement that arose in the late 19th century in response to growing anti-Semitism and sought to reestablish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Modern Zionism is concerned with the support and development of the state of Israel. (Webster's)

OK. Well THAT didn't make any sense to me! What, exactly, was wrong with THAT? Israel was our ally, the Jewish people had suffered terribly in Europe, and God had given them this land in the first place anyway! Such was the reasoning of a child.

In many years of subsequent Bible Study, I have learned that my child-like assessment of Zionism was the correct one. Mount Zion is located in Jerusalem, the millenia-old Capital of Israel, both Ancient and Modern. Although our New President, Donald J. Trump, will take a lot of flack for moving the American Embassy to Jerusalem where it belongs, I have been praying for this specific thing for over thirty years. I have also walked in a procession in Jerusalem to call attention to this. The Thread you are reading is a result of this particular prayer of mine. AND, Today's Psalm confirms it.
