Pope Has Done Almost Nothing to Halt Sex Abuse, Author Claims [Catholic Caucus]

The last time Italian journalist Emiliano Fittipaldi wrote an exposé about corruption at the heart of the Roman Catholic Church, it landed him in a Vatican court facing a possible jail sentence on charges that he had illegally obtained confidential church papers in the course of his reporting.

Now, six months after the 42-year-old reporter was cleared of all charges, Fittipaldi is taking on the church again. This time in a new book that accuses Pope Francis of doing “close to nothing” to stop clerical sexual abuse...around the world, despite the...pope’s frequent assertions that he has zero tolerance for...abuse...or those who protect abusers.

In Lussuria (Lust), which will be released in Italian by publisher Feltrinelli on Thursday, Fittipaldi methodically pores over court documents and cites interviews with priests and judicial officials to paint a damning picture of the first three years of Francis’s papacy. Fittipaldi claims that 1,200 plausible complaints of molestation against boys and girls from around the world have been brought to the Vatican’s attention in that period. In some of the twenty cases of alleged sexual abuse by priests in Italy in 2016, Fittipaldi writes, priests have been convicted of abuse without the church taking any canonical action against them...

“The principle message of the book – the problem – is that the phenomenon of paedophilia is not being fought with sufficient force. Across the world, the church continues to protect the privacy of the paedophiles and also the cardinals [who protect them],” Fittipaldi said in an interview with the Guardian...A papal commission created by Francis early in his papacy has only met three or four times in its history...A Vatican proposal to create a tribunal to investigate bishops who cover up for abusers...celebrated...when...announced...has inexplicably been stalled...

There is a very notorious case in Italy right now where Francis reinstated a priest who had been removed by BXVI and then was tried, Convicted and served several years in jail. He had been soliciting teenage boys for sex in the confessional, among other things.

But he’s a Friend Of Francis and of a Cardinal who is an “FOF,” so he was brought back into the active priesthood last year and assigned to a parish in Italy. The parishioners found out and are not happy, but as far as Francis is concerned, that’s just their hard luck.

maybe he can call on ALL religions to purge themselves of kid touchers. Including Islam, where child sex abuse runs amok.

As a Roman Catholic whose family has been Catholic as far back as the 15th century(as far back as I have traced it) I will say this straight out. The Pope CANNOT do anything about perverts in the priesthood without tossing out 80=90% of priests. The Vatican would be empty. The priesthood has been infested with homosexuals for SO long that they are entrenched in power, Bishops, Cardinals, and NO WAY will they start heads rolling when theirs will be next. It's not 'pedophilia' it's HOMOSEXUALITY. For every female child accusing a priest of abuse there are 100 males. And ridding the church of those accused of 'pedophilia' would still leave a huge majority of priests breaking their vows by having sex with adults- and EACH OTHER. That negates them as priests IMO.

So what we have is a CEO whose company is infested with embezzlers who are killing it, but who knows he can't purge the place without going out of business and starting over. Who self-destructs like that? Its like expecting a Mafia Don to give up all his hit men to the FBI. Not gonna happen-not from the top- too much invested. Change has to come from the faithful( and the Church is the people, not the hierarchy) rejecting and refusing homosexual clergy. PC be damned. One on one, face to face, refusing the priests and the Bishops and Cardinals and POPES who protect and excuse them. I would rather have ONE real, vow-keeping priest per CONTINENT than a priesthood full of perversion. We started with 12.
