Bizarre move:Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople writes article...endorsing Amoris Laetitia.
Rorate Caeli ^ | December 3, 2016 | Augustinus

Full title:

"Bizarre move: Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople writes article for L'Osservatore Romano endorsing Amoris Laetitia. Revisiting the contrasting positions of Moscow and Constantinople at the Synod of 2015"

In what is surely one of the most bizarre twists in the debate on Amoris Laetitia, Pariarch Bartholomew, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople, has penned an article unabashedly endorsing that exhortation. While it is no secret that the Kasperite and liberal wing have partly taken inspiration from Eastern Orthodox praxis, that L'Osservatore Romano would go to the extent of publishing an article from Bartholomew in support of AL will only exacerbate the concerns of those who do see this document as intending a departure from perennial Catholic teaching.

The full text of the editorial, in English, can be found here: "God is Love (1 John 4:8)".

This has not been a good week for Orthodox patriarchs. First the nauseating tribute to Castro from Pat. Kirill and now this vacuous drivel. Really. Bart needs to learn to mind his own business and stick to what he is good at, like hosting modernist and ecumenist pseudo-councils on sunny Mediterranean islands.

P.S. Apologies to our Catholic FRiends. Most of us Orthodox try to ignore Bart. I suggest you do the same. He’s not quite as bad as Francis but he has said a lot of things over the years that have made serious Orthodox cringe.

Let's cut through the mumbo jumbo. Here is what Pope Francis has said regarding Amoris Leatitia:

Click here for an article detailing all of it in plain language, not catholic legalese.

And, now the Greek Orthodox Pope has endorsed the above. Fasten your seat belts and wait for the wrath of God.

Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople--who?

Amoris Laetitia--who?

Roman Catholics do know these words from their Mass are for a reason. They cannot be led astray with disunity:

Dómine Iesu Christe, qui dixísti Apóstolis tuis: Pacem relínquo vobis, pacem meam do vobis: ne respícias peccáta nostra, sed fidem Ecclésiæ tuæ; eámque secúndum voluntátem tuam pacificáre et coadunáre digneris. Qui vivis et regnas in sǽcula sǽculorum.

Translation:

O Lord Jesus Christ, Who didst say to Thine Apostles: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you: look not upon our sins, but upon the faith of Thy Church; and graciously grant her peace and unity according to Thy will. Who livest and reignest, God, world without end.

A lot of people have this naive idea that Eastern Orthodoxy has spent the last several centuries hermetically sealed in a bubble, unaffected and untouched by the modern world. Not only is (mainstream) Eastern Orthodoxy liberal now, it has been for decades . . . perhaps since the 1920s or even earlier. And even certain "traditionalist" anti-mainstream Orthodox have bought into and promote evolution and deny total Biblical inerrancy--a common overreaction to avoid association with (Heavens to Betsy!) American-style Fundamentalist Protestantism.

The ancient Miaphysite and Nestorian churches are even worse. They are totally ethnic, not having converted a soul for 1700 years, and are up to their eyeballs in liberalism, ecumenism, and identity politics. Ever notice that these "ancient, unchanged" churches are always missing in action when it comes to the "culture wars?" They're too proud of their "heritage" to be concerned about actual moral conditions.

So many people are convinced that chrstianity simply must be the true religion if for no other reason than all the Organized Forces of Evil are concentrated against it. Yet I notice that those Forces of Evil aren't against all forms of chrstianity--just redneck Fundamentalists and (to a lesser extent) white Roman Catholics. Other than those two the rest of the chrstian world is either ignored or celebrated.
