The Children Are Still Listening In an election deemed one of the nastiest in recent times, our children heard hateful things said about women. CNN analyst and Marxist Van Jones expressed anguished concern on national TV: “It’s hard to be a parent tonight for a lot of us.” It is easy to conclude that Trump, the new President-Elect, is responsible for this negative effect on children, since it is his words that are quoted. But I wonder if others also contribute to filling our children’s ears with things they need not hear. In private, salacious talk about sex is apparently common, especially among men. My secular golfing buddies assure me that they hear plenty of it. Like all of us, Mr. Trump is responsible for every word he speaks, whether in private or in public. But the press also controls what our children hear. By choosing to play Trump’s lurid private sound bite repeatedly on prime time, do they not bear part of the blame? Did they measure how their coverage would affect the lives of children watching? Endless dismissive insults were heaped on Trump by the “Fourth Estate,” as the press has traditionally been called. Journalism was meant to speak as neutrally as possible to the public, in an attempt to allow them an informed choice in matters of politics. Yet recently, we have seen “neutral” journalists seek approval from the Clinton campaign for future articles. Debate questions were leaked to Hillary from “unbiased” journalists. I am not justifying Trump, but in the past, salacious, private talk did not necessarily find its way verbatim onto the evening news. Imagine the conversations we could have heard between the three Kennedy brothers! JFK had innumerable affairs during his time in office as did his brother Robert, and Ted left a young woman to drown in a tidal pool in Chappaquiddick because he was more concerned about his reputation than about her life.
In 2016, the media made Trump’s behavior seem exceptional, as a political ploy to keep him out of office. Ironically, had Hillary won, the press would have had a far worse sex-obsessed male back in the WH, the site of his earlier despicable crimes. It is publicly known that Bill Clinton in recent years went twenty times with Jeffrey Epstein, a billionaire convicted sex-offender, to his private “sex-slave island” in the Caribbean. What do our children think about this?
Trump is guilty. The media are guilty. Our entire culture is guilty! In each of his many iterations over the years, Agent 007 treats women as sexual objects. Our Hollywood entertainers and popular journalists have made totally banal a strongly pornographic vision of sex. Lady Gaga publicly offered free oral sex to any who voted for Hillary. Fox News has an inordinate proportion of long-legged blonde women who depend on their beauty, as well as their brains, to get and keep their jobs. Do our children see and hear all this? Miley Cyrus was twerking in the White House (at the invitation of First Lady Michelle Obama), using in her lyrics the very same uncouth terms employed by Trump! Our newspapers, news websites, teenage girl magazines and unfiltered pornographic web sites all contribute to the degeneration of public sex. Alas, we can no longer protect our children from sexual squalor!
The only way we can begin to protect them is through genuine confession. I ask myself how the children of our land would be affected by hearing my private conversations. What if your words were broadcast over CNN? We all bear responsibility for the legacy we leave. We must pray for our current President, our President-Elect, our elected officials and our nation as a whole. May we repent, seek forgiveness through Christ from a holy God, and speak truth in love. Only then can we hold our heads high before our children.
How many men might follow suit should President-Elect Trump address the nation, confessing and repenting of any wrong attitudes he has had and any unseemly act he has committed to dehumanize women? Trump would do well to follow his vice-president, Mike Pence, who recently declared without fear, in public, that he is first and foremost a Christian and that the USA must to turn to God again in repentance. He even quoted II Chronicle 7:14 If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Maybe a revival would break out!
Ya, like ... public school
Yes our kids are listening. But it depends what liberals are pushing.
For example, CBS has a sitcom in which mother and daughter talk openly about having sex and the status of their pubic hair, and that’s considered OK for kids to hear. But the liberals are oh so shocked about things Trump has said, and are afraid of their kids hearing this??? Really??? We can talk about pubic hair but not listen to political talk???
This is a teachable moment.. the lesson to our youth is “YOU ARE JUDGED ON YOUR ACTIONS, NOT ON YOUR WORDS.” I am so sick of hearing how Trump has dehumanized women. As a woman, I find that insulting. Nobody can dehumanize you but yourself. THAT’S the lesson as well.
Was it “hateful” to observe as Donald did that the former Miss Venezuela (or whatever South American hellhole she represented...) had become a fat pig after her contest win?
When did “accurate” become “hateful?”
AND FURTHERMORE, if this idiot Dr. truly believes that words do that much damage, do something useful like going after rap music. I’m sure there are many more 13 year olds listening to rap videos than 20 year old videos by our next President.
The Left releases a tape of Trump taking trash, them blames Trump because children heard it.
