VATICAN CITY, November 10, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) Cardinal Raymond Burke said Donald Trump's election as U.S. president is a "clear sign of the will of the people" and a victory for the pro-life cause.
Burke is the patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the former Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, the Vaticans highest court. He is one of the most well-known defenders of life, family, and Catholic orthodoxy.
In an interview with the National Catholic Register's Ed Pentin, Burke said Trump's Catholic advisory committee and the fact that "he tends to associate himself with very sound advisers" are a "hopeful sign" that he will keep his campaign promises.
Some members of the Catholic advisory committee "are well-known to me, and they are very fine people," said Burke.
"Of course, after any election, this is the big question: Will the candidate be true to his word, follow through?" he noted. "We have to hope and pray that he does that. One thing I heard about him is that he tends to associate himself with very sound advisers, and I would trust that he will do that."
"I trust that [Trump] will address the many moral problems with the health care mandate that was pushed during these last eight years," said Burke.
Catholics must "be attentive to insist on whats morally right" under a Trump presidency, given concerns about Trump's vulgarity and stated support for torturing terrorists and killing their families, Burke said, but Catholics could "in good conscience" vote for him. This was because "in all that he said, at least there was a hope of advancing in some way the common good of the nation," the cardinal explained.
"I dont think the new president will be inspired by hatred in his treatment of the issue of immigration,"....

That Cardinal just got a demotion
No, probably not. But, maybe America has awoken to
the fact that it is drifting farther to the left than it really wants to go.
The family unit in this country has been destroyed. The left has almost succeeded in debasing our culture. I hope we have a renewal.
As Trump says - this is a movement.
On the upside, Trump will help set the direction of SCOTUS in a better direction, possibly for decades.
God has intervened bigly in this Year of Mercy. Look how bad quickly the culture got under the influence of Obama. The president can have a big effect on the culture.
Maybe America has woken up to the moral crisis, but Rome sure hasn’t.
I keep trying to tell you, ebb tide, stop worrying about Rome! That Harlot is going to ride that Beast and there is nothing you can do about it! Hold fast! Look up! Your redemption draws near!
Unfortunately, he already was demoted by the current Pope.
The Harlot is Saudi Arabia and the Beast is Wahhabism. The Fall of Babylon will be the fall of Mecca. The fact that Yemen has been launching Scud missiles at Mecca in the last few weeks, supposedly the holiest site in the Islamic world, is evidence that Mecca’s days are numbered. Walid Shoebat interprets Rev 17 &18 very nicely in his book “God’s War on Terror”.
Protestants who have ignorantly identified the Harlot with Catholicism will have some splainin’ to do when the Man returns.
These are symbolic types. They can be instantiated in more than one way.
I understand why Cdl. Burke would like to believe this, but I don’t see the slightest evidence for it.
That has by no means been established. There's still about 7% of the vote to be counted as of yesterday and her "lead" is only about 150K votes nationwide. Further, many absentee votes are never counted once the there are less outstanding ballots that the margin of victory for the offices. Don't blindly but what the MSM keeps trying to sell. They are liars and propagandists.
In some ways wisely, in other ways through lack of charity coupled with ignorance.
It was still too close.
I know too many people that were willing to overlook Hillary’s corruption and incompetence as well as the issues and bought the MSM’s claim that Trump was too inflamatory to be President.
Electing Trump will certainly help us turn on moral issues. But I think the nation elected Trump despite not having turned on moral issues.
Trump won the Evangelicals with 81% and Catholics with 52%. He made it a key issue to ensure Christians are free to practice their Faith. He wants to repeal the law that uses the IRS as a weapon against Christian leaders.
Christians, including this one, prayed fervently for his victory.
All those to me signify that there was also a moral component to this election.
Catholic ping!
We got a second chance. Now it’s our turn to do the right thing and encourage as many people as we can to come along.
I believe God intervened with every fiber of my being.
