Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Book of Psalms

BOOK I
Psalms 1–41
Psalm 1

1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,

2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.

3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.

4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Our Father Who Art in Heaven,
Hallowed Be Your Name!
For You Alone are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
For You Are Glorious in Majesty!
You Alone Are The One True God.
Perfect in All Your Ways
And yet, You give us permission
To call You "Abba Father"!
How Righteous, Holy, and Just You Are!

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According to Your Will and Promise.
We Pray For the People and Leaders of Israel,
that They Will Look to You for the Protection
and Prosperity of their Nation.
We Also Pray For Revival in our own Beloved USA.


We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

It has been a while since we have gone through the Psalms on this Thread, but it is never too soon to do it again. The Psalms are revered by Jews and Christians of all denominations.They are enshrined in Liturgies, included in Prayer Books, and often paired with the New Testament in portable pocket-editions.

Psalm One opens with the Classic Element in Hebrew Poetry: The Contrast. This contrast is not distilled into a couplet, like a Proverbs, but instead, spends a few verses describing the differences between the Righteous and the Wicked. Within the verses, however, we can the contrasts played out.

This is a very easy Psalm to memorize because of the contrasts following each other. Each line is a clue to the next line, and foreshadows "Call and Response" which will become a feature of some of the later Psalms. For the musicians out there, The term "Call and Response" is a familiar one. The Greek word for a Psalm or prayer sung back and forth between parties is Antiphon, meaning "from opposite sides" (presumably from opposite sides of the aisle in a church). The "Responsorial Psalm" in both Catholic and Protestant Liturgies is an example of an Antiphon.. In the African-American Church in America, this kind of singing became an important feature of the Service. The complicated reason would be that , in the oral tradition in Africa, a song-leader would call out a line, which would cue the listener to respond back. A simpler reason could be that Hymnals are EXPENSIVE, and the music was freer without them!

"Call and Response" has come all the way from the Psalms of David through all kinds of mutations to become an essential part of the BLUES. Most Blues and Rock bands have either a horn section or back-up vocalist who perform this function.

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
