At the general assembly, the theologian will be Msgr. John Strynkowski, who worked at the Vatican for eight years and served as executive director of Doctrine and Pastoral Practices for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. He attended the XIV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the family in 2015 as the theological adviser for Chicagos Archbishop Blase Cupich.
Bottom line:
People get divorced. It’s reality. Even devout, practicing Catholics who don’t want a divorce have spouses who meet someone else and abandon them.
Many don’t choose a lifetime of celibacy. So if they meet someone else, rather than deal with the annulment circus they leave the Church and join another one (generally nondenominational).
Then they start TITHING to that church. And if the new marriage produces children they are RAISED in that church.
This is REALLY what is sticking in the Catholic Church’s craw. Love it or hate it, liberalization is coming. Driven by the collection basket.
