CHERRY HILL, N.J. (ChurchMilitant.com) - A Catholic high school in New Jersey is denying a self-described transgender enrollment in its school.
Madelyn Catrambone, a 14-year-old girl, applied to Camden Catholic High School in Cherry Hill in February, and was accepted. Since then, she has decided to start identifying as male, and when the school found out, it rescinded its offer.
Camden's principle Heather Crisci said last week that the school's Catholic identity made it impossible to accept a child who believes she is the opposite sex, because to do so would involve implicit rejection of Church teaching
Catrambone commented, "I felt like I was rejected even though I knew the students of Camden Catholic would accept me as one of their peers."
"I had learned that there is a stance against transgender people in the Bible ... and you are as God created you, and you shouldn't tamper with that," she conceded. "So yeah, I would say I wasn't surprised at the end."
Frank Catrambone, her father, remarked that "Camden Catholic changed my life, and I was very, very excited that my kid was going to have the same opportunity."
Michael Walsh, spokesman for the diocese of Camden, is addressing the situation. "Our administrators took great care to meet with the family and discuss their requests for accommodations," he said. "Adhering to its Catholic principles, the school concluded that it could not accommodate the family's requests without compromising some of the basic tenets of our faith."
School officials met with Catrambone's parents twice in August to work out arrangements so she could attend the school. After the meetings the school said it wouldn't be able to meet the needs of a transgender student.
Father Joseph Capella, director of Catholic identity at the school, said, "The school environment is shaped by religious beliefs, and behavior is governed accordingly."
He continued, "Our bodies, and every aspect of our humanity, are a gift we have been asked to steward and protect. We are not the creators. We are the created."
"We understand that not everyone will accept or agree with our beliefs," he added, "and some will choose another learning environment."
"By choosing a Catholic school, students and their parents must understand that this means the school environment is shaped by religious beliefs and behavior is governed accordingly," Camden Catholic officials said in a written statement. "After discussion with the student's parents and reflection on the requests, it was clear that we could not provide the accommodations, as they would contradict Catholic teaching on gender identity."
Catrambone responded, "I'm not a transgender ... entity. I'm not some diabolical plan to impose my transgender evilness on them. I just want people to know what happened."
She added, "I know it wasn't very logical at first to go to a Catholic school knowing that I was transgender ... but at the same time, they could have worked it out."
An online petition was started in Catrambone's favor by a person who identifies as "Concerned Camden Catholic Student," and has acquired 1,300 signatures.
Catrambone would have been the first transgender to attend the school if she had been admitted.
Here’s hoping that they stand their ground rather than go along to get along.

We sure are hearing a lot about the T in LGBT peoples nowadays.
Its as if since they won the battle for homosexual marriage, now the goal posts have been moved. Now these issues of transgender rights are said to be major civil rights issues.
They won the battle on homosexual marriage in our civil laws. Did anyone think that now the liberals lives were complete? Obviously not since now we have stories such as this, and ongoing battles over transgender bathrooms. We see entire states and types of people demonized if they don’t accept this new world order of LGBT “rights” which the liberals seek to impose on all of us.

Camden Diocese stands tall - recently came out with a letter to their schools saying they would not stand for players not standing during the playing of the National Anthem a la Kaspernick or whatever he’s called - of course all this will go away when the progressives under Hillary get one more liberal justice on the Supreme Court who will insist that religious liberty does not include the right of church related institutions to decide what their own policies will be.....

Note that the article refers to the kid as "she" so they aren't giving into her delusions. Further not that this is the problem, people who feel entitled to go where they know they don't fit in by forcing others to change, like it or not. If you don't cave, we alert the media and get the DOJ to investigate you.
