Labor Day - Work, How Do You Value It?

Consider Your Work

The VALUE placed upon LABOR is a element in a society because it reflects the social structure as well as the scale of social values. One’ society, even globally, is in a state of change making for difficulties. Thus it is needful to maintain a good attitude toward work and toil which affects not only society but one’s own soul.

It is Almighty God’s MERCY and GRACE which sets the right conditions - "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return (Gen 3:19)" – lest IDLENESS should be the ruin of one’s soul and body. IDLENESS was not made for man, nor was man for IDLENESS.

The desire of the slothful (lazy man) killeth him; for his hands REFUSE to LABOR (Prov. 21:25).

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies (2 Thes. 3:10-11).

Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee (Psalms 128:1-2).

The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep (Eccl 5:12).

The right attitude and action to do your best is very commendable. But our best cannot make possible THE BEST which is necessary.

Consider Almighty God’s Work

Salvation, even eternal life, is not earned by the good works and diligent labors of men: NOT BY WORKS of righteousness which we have done, but according to HIS MERCY He saved us (Titus 3:5).

I have glorified thee (Almighty God the Father)on the earth: I have FINISHED THE WORK which thou gavest me to do (John 17:4).

A person cannot work his way to heaven. The Lord Jesus Christ made possible your SALVATION once and for all on the cross, and when he had finished paying the full debt of your sins and mine He cried out, “IT IS FINISHED!” (John 19:30).

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast (Eph 2:8-9).

But to him that WORKETH NOT, but BELIEVETH on HIM that justifieth the ungodly, HIS FAITH is counted for righteousness (Romans 4:5).

Salvation is not based on what I might do; it is based on what Jesus Christ has ALREADY DONE! Salvation is not earned by WORKING; but it is gained by RECEIVING and RESTING on the work of Another! Resting, relying on the Work of Jesus Christ makes for an eternal safety and a good out working in the believer’s life.

But as many as RECEIVED him, to them gave he power to become the sons (children) of God, even to them that BELIEVE on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:12-13).

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God (1 John 5:12-13).

Are you resting your soul on the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ and His saving work? Are you relying on His sure Word? May it be your sole desire to know the Savior of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ! You will never be the same my friend. NEVER!

The Kingdom of Heaven is at Hand!

Work these days is stupid.

I am working to pay off my mortgage. Then I go back to earning, growing, and living off my wit.

It is a meager fare...

I started building my business in 1997. I went all in. We did pretty well, building to a very respectable size and good living for 4 families, selling Industrial Equipment to businesses large and small. My son works with me and hopes to take over the business if we survive. We are down to bare bones, keeping the lights on and waiting for a win that will make America friendly to business.

The banks cut our credit lines in 2008 and are still sitting on the money we need for operating capital. Customers of a dozen years or more are closed. There has been consolidation and movement overseas by many of our rivals, who are dumping cheap product in the marketplace. We sell American made products nearly exclusively, but have been forced to pick up some of the lines we have always carried in the past from overseas because the American companies either BK’d or moved their plants there.

I know the story doesn’t sound unique on this board, but in many ears, it sounds like “a rich guy crying about his money.” But when you log just shy of a million air miles (inside the US only) traveling and visiting and making relationships with customers and others like you for twenty years, it hurts to see it all sliding away. But now that I am a corporate demon, I guess I can’t expect much sympathy.

A Clinton win will surely kill us. We will lose our home, our savings and forced into retirement against our will to downsize and live off whatever we scrape together. My son will have to find a job working for someone else instead of carrying forward the good will and business he has helped to build since leaving college.

This election is personal.

Don’t you understand you are “Paying off that Mortgage” to house your family (if there is one)? Withough that morgage you’d be writing RENT checks. You are already earning, growing and living off your wit.
Eventually the mortgage is paid and you OWN the house.
RENT checks will never stop and you have hundreds of cancelled checks.

I know. I was speaking tongue in cheek.

I paid off the truck last week. Its nice to drive on my nickel now, and not the bank’s.

Three years and counting. And we are done with it all.

Five years if I take my eyes off the ball. Still leaves me just hitting 60.

BIG Amen to that!
Also rents NEVER go down and once the mortgage is paid rent will be a distant nightmare. There is NOTHING like owning your own home. NOTHING.
Well put, Cap'n.
