CANTERBURY, England (RNS) Nicholas Chamberlain, the bishop of Grantham, has come out as the first Church of England bishop to openly acknowledge he is gay.

Chamberlain, 52, said in an interview with the Guardian published Friday (Sept. 2) that he is living with a man and in a long term loving relationship, though it does not involve sex.

The Guardian predicted that Chamberlain’s announcement “will be embraced by campaigners for equality but is likely to alarm conservatives who fear the church is moving away from traditional teachings.”

As a suffragan bishop, Chamberlain is subordinate to the archbishop of his diocese, Lincoln, in the east of England.

The bishop was ordained last year by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who says he knew Chamberlain was gay.

Well, then, he's been lying so far, I'd guess this is a lie, too.

Excellent defender of the faith on that link. I hope he finds kindred spirits on FR. Otherwise, he is doing great laymen’s work amongst the confused, lenient and corruptors.

That church is very very sick. Has been for quite some time. As for homosexual church officials in Canterbury, though, this modern homosexual “bishop” is hardly new in that role. Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, written between about 1387 and 1400, featured a probably- homosexual church official there —— Linkee:
http://sites.fas.harvard.edu/~laa14/sourcebook/mac-pard.htm Ps: a “pardoner” was a church official who travelled around selling “official pardons” for sins, typically signed by the local bishop. Pps: I think the spiritual decay or degeneracy in the C ofE (episcopal in USA) is a major contributor to the downfall of Britain as a successful society/polity

Mainline Protestantism is toast, with such as PECUSA/TEC and the CofE leading the way to the bottom. Irrelevance and extinction are near.

Isn’t the so-called Church of England also known as the Church of Pederasty?

Was not the “Church of England” created to allow the king at the time to get a divorce? “Henry VIII sought to secure an annulment from Catherine of Aragon.” Correct me if I am wrong. Downhill from there-- false church, false teachings, false pastors.

You are correct. The Anglican Church is slowly but surely finding its way back to the Church of Rome because of the raging homosexuality among the Anglican hierarchy.
The obstacle is the Horses Ass called Frankie, but he’s 80. Praise the Almighty.
