Notice the Pope says something very conservative while he was visiting the country of Poland. He is tailoring his message to the crowd of the day. With this Pope, I have to remain rather cynical.

I don't care what anybody says, including the pope, but you can't choose your gender,(sex, really), You're born with it.

*Kiss* to Pope Francis. I think he has the right instincts, but he’s just getting dotty, bless his heart, like our Deacon Rafael, but that’s another story. Get you another drink? Anyway, where was I ...

Oh, I remember! I don’t think we can make any progress until we nail down the distinction between “sex” and “gender.” People say, “Oh, you’re just a drunk Grammarnazi” (wanna see my flag?), but we have to get right with reality in our terminology before we can go any further.

Excepting a few genetically damaged individuals, each of us is clearly either male or female. That is our sex, and it reflects the order of creation. “Gender” is a rather amorphous term, though, relating to the concepts of grammar, or weaseling around how our male-or-female reality expresses itself in society.

Our society has beaten “gender,” the expressions of male/female reality, to death. Have you looked at the Daily Mail lately? Everyone’s nearly naked. Their “gender” is in everyone’s face, but God forbid anyone believe anything about someone’s sex, or believe it has any relevance beyond stimulation.

As long as the whole society acts as if our sex and our sexual behaviors have nothing to do with reproduction, I don’t see any possibility for improvement short of total societal collapse, which wonderfully focusses the mind.

It's FANTASY that you can choose your gender.

It's like saying I have blue eyes but I identify as a brown-eyed person.

Really?! How stupid does that sound?

Francis' ended by telling the Polish bishops he wanted them to reflect on this: 'We must think about what Pope Benedict said -- "It's the epoch of sin against God the Creator".'

LOL.....I knew there was a sub-plot to this and it's a two-fer!

Firstly, he said it in Poland to the Polish bishops and for good measure and dramatic effect, he unfolded the perfect stage prop for that particular audience; a ventriloquist's dummy of Pope Benedict which started spewing old BXVI quotes, always a favorite of the conservative Polish episcopate.

Francis is very aware of the "rigid" people who oppose his "merciful" agenda so what better time to surprise them and burnish one's papal bona fides with a bit of anti-zetgeist rhetoric than in a meeting with some of one's most implacable critics. In front of a conservative audience, Francis the chameleon suddenly turns into a Benedict-quoting culture warrior! I believe this is called "preaching to the choir".

I'd feel much less cynical about this if he stood up in St.Peter's Square and said it at a Wednesday general audience. When a Pope saying something sensible is big news, it tells you how far things have gone downhill.

Don’t look to Francis for guidance. Like a blind squirrel, he’s bound to find an acorn now and then.

Well he did identify it as a sin, but it is past reflecting time and marching orders should have been given.............

Wow. Something I can agree with this pope on.

I think it’s the first thing he’s said that falls into that category.
