Mirrors can lie. I look in the mirror and see a fat woman, even though I’m 5’4” tall, 125 lbs.

I mean when someone comes up with guff like “He came out for gay marriage” we know this person has an obsession with hearing what he wants to hear. And I don’t even believe some of the Roman Catholic version of Christian theology. But when a footnote in an encyclical hints that second-married people might be able to go to Mass and THIS is the most controversial thing... accusations like “coming out for gay marriage” are just ignorant, stupid, and yes, evil.

Pope Francis most certainly did NOT come out in favor of so -called "gay" "marriage."

Looking for that direct quote, are you? Won't find it here:

Pope Francis' statements on marriage, sex and gender

`

Don't buck him when he's right.

Thank you for that clarification.

I try to read carefully, yet I had the impression, from articles that I read, here on FR, that Pope Francis was at least “hinting” that Homosexual sex not be considered wrong.

Show me the smoking gun. I have seen it more than once... the pope sneezes and some ultra conservative Catholic group promptly diagnoses him with terminal pneumonia and that (pardon the pun) goes viral. He’s gone off on some Marxist geopolitical jags, but this? I’d want to see the direct smoking gun. Not reports of reports of reports.

Thank you, Hi Tech. I appreciate you more and more.

BTW, the issue isn't whether people committed to second unions --- defined by Our Lord in the Gospels as 'adulterous' --- can attend Mass. They can, and have always been able to. Anyone can attend Mass. Anyone can pray in a Catholic church.

The controversy is whether they could receive Holy Communion without repentance, which is a whole 'nother question.

This might be a concrete way to see where the Catholics are really at with this: Call up 100 or however many random Catholic parishes. Even concentrate on really liberal areas. Tell them you have family that attends there. Ask them if they will marry you to another man, you are a Catholic in good standing and need to do the right thing. And see what they say about it.

“They can, and have always been able to.”

I think they are required to actually go and hear the gospel at Mass, no matter their irregular or disordered situation.

I am dumbfounded! This sounds as though I’m reading about a completely different Pontiff at a different place in time.

Has Pope Francis taken another step to push for tolerance in the Catholic Church?

Yes, says Diego Neria Lejarraga, a transgender man who says he had a private audience with the Pope in late January, reportedly a first for the pontiff. Neria was born as a girl in Spain and raised as a devout Catholic. But after his sex change operation eight years ago, many people scorned him in church in his hometown of Plasencia in western Spain. Neria recalls heated discussions with a parish priest and some others in town. Afterward, he started staying away from Mass.

"I've never lost faith, ever," Neria says. "But the other thing is the rejection."

He wrote to Pope Francis last year, saying his local bishop helped get the letter noticed. Next, according to Neria, came two phone calls from Francis. And then, a discreet audience on a Saturday evening, January 24, at the papal residence, Casa Santa Marta.

On 8 December last year [2014], Diego Neria received a call from the Pope to tell him that he was loved by God and to ask him to come to meet him in Rome. Francis insisted that he and his fiancée, Macarena, come at the weekend because during the week Diego worked as a clerk.

Promising to call later to fix the date, the Pope telephoned again on 20 December. “I have a gap on 24 January at five in the afternoon. Can you both come then?”

Neria says Francis told him not to worry if he couldn’t afford the ticket. “If you have no money, when you’re both here I’ll give you an envelope to cover your expenses, that’s no problem. You know I live with other priests in the Santa Marta guesthouse. When you get here, tell the Swiss Guards you have a meeting with me, and that’s it.”

December 8th is the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. One year later, on the same feast day, Francis desecrated St Peter's Basillica with a U.N. treehugger light show.

Right there it says the pope has a fiancée.
