At the end of the day, Fletcher’s ethic is wrongheaded because it separates God’s law from love.

To be more accurate, it is wrongheaded because it presumes that humans can define for themselves and for God what chesed/agape, the Hebrew and Greek words for God's love, mean. The Law is how God defines love. One should act in accordance with God's Law, as explained in the written Word through Christ, the living Word, because that is indeed acting in God's love.
