In the book, entitled Hope for the World, Cardinal Burke argues that the “ferocious attack against life today” results from “the distortion of the sexual act by contraception”, and urges Catholics to defend human life.

He adds: “The devil, of course, wants to discourage us: he tries to sow doubt in our minds about defending human life publicly. And he subtly tempts us to remain silent, to mute our conscience, to tell ourselves that we are personally against abortion but do not have to express our faith and moral convictions in public.”

Cardinal Raymond Burke was born in A.D. 1948, long before the travesty of the Roe V Wade SCOTUS decision.

Was this a Medical Doctor who made that recommendation - or simply an abortionist pretending to be a Medical Doctor?

Even before Roe v. Wade, many states allowed abortion “for the health of the mother”, or some similar reasons.

Accoding to this Wikipedia article, even pre-Roe vs Wade, abortion was legal in the USA in a number of states under certain conditions:

   Illegal.

   Legal in cases of rape.
   Legal in cases of danger to woman's health.
   Legal in cases of danger to woman's health, rape or incest, or likely damaged fetus.
   Legal upon request.
I don't know how to make this display correctly.

Red=illegal.
Purple=Rape exception
Blue-Woman's health exception
Green=Exceptions for women's health,rape,incest, or damaged baby
Yellow=abortion generally legal.

I don't know if all this goes back as far as 1948. It's just supposedly "pre-Roe vs Wade".

As for the situation of Raymond Burke's mother: maybe the doctor was just willing to do the occasional illegal abortion. Killers don't care about law.
