Not some of the Huguenots; as I understand it were originally French speaking Swiss who did go to Holland first but then came to the States. We have very little information as to motives for the second move. Everything has been lost in assimilation. My parents did not care to dwell on the past. OK with me!
Holland, in those days was known to be a tolerant place. The Pilgrims stayed there for a few years before they sailed on the Mayflower to what became Plymouth, MA. The only reason they did not stay there was that they felt that their English ways were under cultural threat. So they decided to settle in a hostile land.
