When Abraham believed God, he was justified by faith and acquitted of sin (Gen. 15:6). When he offered up Isaac, he was justified by works in that his faith was vindicated.

This is such an excellent point to make! As one follows Abram/Abraham's career, one sees that it took him many, many years to move through stages of spiritual maturity from being a "Babe in Christ" to the point of totally and instantly committing his trust in God by his actions. The same is true for any follower of Jesus today. The psalmist spoke to this in a thought that ought to be in one's memory always:

"Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD, that walketh in His ways" (Ps. 128:1)

Note that: every one.
