In the Gospel of Luke, one of the major signs Jesus mentions as preceding His return (aside from earthquakes, wars, and signs in the heavens) is that "nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea" (Luke 21:25). I think that all of these record breaking hurricanes and cyclones over the past few years may play a part in the fulfillment of this prophecy. Just in the last decade or so we've seen the most powerful, costliest, and unique cyclones on record. In addition there was the massive December 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed one quarter million people - the deadliest tsunami in all of recorded history. It may be that this tsunami was the beginning of the final fulfillment of Luke 21:25. And don't forget the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in 2011 that killed nearly 16,000 people in Japan and triggered the Fukushima meltdown. The Tohoku tsunami disaster is, to this day, the costliest natural disaster of any kind in all of human history and it was just five years ago!
In verse 32 of your text, Jesus said:
“Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all things be accomplished.”
If this prophecy wasn’t fulfilled in Jesus’ generation, why should we listen to him any more than we would Joseph Smith?
So what does the fig tree mean to you then?
The fig tree in Biblical context symbolizes Israel. Some scholars suggest it means the same generation that sees Israel become a nation again “shall not pass away, till they are accomplished”.
Just before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese emperor wrote,
“If all men are brethren, then why are the winds and the waves restless?”
But it was Jesus of Whom the disciples asked,
“What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the seas obey him?”
So street signs in Australia are in Japanese?
For a messenger from God, you sure a quite the blog pimp.
You seem to know what the word generation means. If you also know what the word “this” means, you know which generation Jesus was speaking of. Right?
If you think you know what the fig tree refers to, what do “all the trees” in verse 29 refer to?
Nothing to be perplexed about here, I think.
There ought to be some common sense here.
