Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

While searching for images for today's thread, I was inundated with a crowd of "Familiar Faces"! With the media of Cable TV, The Internet, and Broadcasting available, the "Wolves in Sheep's Clothing" have a much more expanded range than they did in Peter's time. I am not speaking of denominational differences or varying interpretations of Scripture, but of those who are deliberately using the Word of God to deceive and rob people. According to Peter, one of the easiest ways to spot a False Teacher is from their lifestyle. If they are teaching one thing and doing another, that is a sure sign.

Both Peter and Paul were living in a time when the government was oppressing them, and they were a persecuted minority. Yet, neither Apostle ranted against the oppressors, nor did they encourage the people to rebel against the Roman Empire. Good Citizenship and upright living were to be traits of the Christian Community.

However, BOTH Peter and Paul warned of False Teachers.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.

And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
