LOL. Most of my last 20 checks are paying estimated tax payments to the government.
Last time I went to church the basket went out twice for the church and once for some special collection. That was over twenty years ago. I make a couple thousand a month, and the have a great big chunk of gold shaped like a cup that a priest drinks a swallow out of three times each Sunday. Seriously I think they should melt down some of those artifacts and use the gold to help the poor. Actually they don’t do much to help the poor because the government does that now.
Ad that may be seed money
My debit card will show the parking fees I pay while working downtown.
But my bank does not know that I provide close-to-professional level musical services in my church band, however.
Everything we do ought to be some kind of offering to the Lord, at least to show godliness by its manner.
No, the plates start out empty.

There’s something to be said for a modest style. The Lord is no less blessed, nor are we, by drinking unto Him from plastic than from gold.
And it’s problematic to say “I let Caesar do it” or “I am a conduit from Caesar to the poor.” This dims the gospel light, no matter what denomination does it these are all supposed to be churches under the oversight of Jesus.
??
Three times?
Must not be a Catholic Church, for the priest only drinks from the cup one time.
We write a check each month and put it in the basket. Some who can’t afford so much or who have other reasons, prefer to drop what they can, as they can as a symbol - and perhaps to ensure others see them giving to assuage any pangs they may feel for not having much to give. Might be more convenient to do away with the baskets but sometimes the “old ways” have their place.
We pay all our bills online but every Sunday morning it is a ritual to write the check, put it in the basket, put the amount on the outside, and take it to church.
Churches love electronic tithing. Personally, I do too. You set it up and forget it. For me, I like the fact that even if I’m not able to make the service that week for whatever reason, the tithe still goes through. I figure preachers will eventually want to suggest parishioners take a look at their finances at least once a year and see if their electronic tithe should be adjusted up or down.
Yeah, I can understand that. For me though, it's a matter of automating the important. I disagree with the idea of stopping the collection plate entirely. Sometimes you might want to do a special (additional) contribution for whatever reason, even if you've automated tithing. Also, not everyone want's to do it electronically, as you said. Both are great. The Lord wants your joyful obedience. Whatever works for you is, I'm sure taken with the intended intention.
