Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Character Studies From The Bible

Peter

(The Gospel according to John)

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

(John 21)

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Blessed is Your Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God.
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent,
Teach us To Stand Firm,
And Always look To You For Our Sustenance.
Keep us From Doing Whatever Seems Right In Our own Eyes,
Instead of looking to You For Our Answers.

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According to Your Will and Promise.
We Pray For the People and Leaders of Israel,
that They Will Look to You for the Protection
and Prosperity of their Nation.
We Also Pray For Revival in our own Beloved USA.

We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Much has been written about this Passage, because the original Koine Greek uses different words for our English word "LOVE". So, Jesus was not being redundant in his questioning of peter, and was not asking the same question three times. Why three times? Well, Peter denied Jesus three times, each one more intense than the denial preceding, finally ending up with oaths and curses.

The third time Jesus asked the question, He used a word for love that was so intense that it could only have meant the love that comes from God.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

.
I sometimes wonder if we are allowed to do so. Are we not expected to carry our cross (in all our misery and agony) an follow Jesus?
Boy, I hope I’m wrong.

Numbers 6: 23 Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the way you shall bless the Israelites. Say to them: The Lord bless you, and keep you [protect you, sustain you, and guard you]; The Lord make His face shine upon you [with favor], And be gracious to you [surrounding you with lovingkindness];The Lord lift up His countenance (face) upon you [with divine approval],And give you peace [a tranquil heart and life]. 27 So Aaron and his sons shall put My name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them.

And this we do and proclaim and agree in Jesus name. Amen.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"The Charge To Peter"
Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino – 1515
Sistine Chapel – Vatican City

_ O when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

Thanks. I thought that we are to carry our sufferings (cross) and are not allowed to pray for relief because that would be like rejecting our cross. Example: Abraham never prayed for relief of his suffering when God commanded him to sacrifice Isaac. Of course, God interfered in Isaac’s killing, but we cannot expect God to do the same for us.

Paul tells us to pray without ceasing.

Jesus gives the example of the widow who constantly petitions the judge for relief.

The Sermon on the Mount is replete with Jesus telling us to pray.

And, of course, the Psalms are a model of prayer.

I respectfully think that you may have been burdened with a harsh view of God’s instruction to “Take up our cross and follow Him.” He also said “My yoke is easy and My burden is light”, so it is not all one thing or the other.

Blessings upon you in your journey. :-)

And prayer is often accompanied by pain for it to be effective. Prayer is often a dangerous thing to get involved with.

Well, that is true enough. Sometimes we are called to “Travail” in Prayer.

Jesus compared this to childbirth. Once a child is brought into the world, the pain of “birth pangs” are left behind.

You write as of one who has suffered much. I pray that you will see answers soon, in Jesus name.

If I am mistaken, please forgive me.
