Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Character Studies From The Bible

Peter

(The Gospel according to Mark )

66 While Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came by. 67 When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him.

“You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus,” she said.

68 But he denied it. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,” he said, and went out into the entryway.[a]

69 When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, “This fellow is one of them.” 70 Again he denied it.

After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”

71 He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about.”

72 Immediately the rooster crowed the second time.[b] Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice[c] you will disown me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

Footnotes:

1. Mark 14:68 Some early manuscripts entryway and the rooster crowed
2. Mark 14:72 Some early manuscripts do not have the second time.
3. Mark 14:72 Some early manuscripts do not have twice.

(Mark 14)

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Period of time covered in the Gospels from the Last Supper to the Burial of Jesus is called "The Passion". All four of the Evangelists tell the same Story, which vary in detail but covers the same Event.

We also have the story of Peter's Denial, and we wonder why God would allow such an abysmal lapse would be allowed into the story! Indeed, if the Evangelists were writing their accounts to perpetrate a hoax, this story would have been "Covered Up" in the fine tradition of human duplicity! Peter would have been the Hero of the Day, and would have rescued Jesus, and they would have rode off into the sunset to save the world!

Even in Classical Greek Literature, if the Hero has a fatal flaw, it is usually Hubris, rather than cowardice. Yet, here we see Peter being, not only a coward, but a Blasphemer, as he calls down curses from heaven to support his lie!

God, in His Mercy, does not let this sin sit too long on Peter's soul, as the predicted cock crow shakes Peter back to reality and repentance.

We all fail, and we all sin, and I pray that when I do, that the Lord will snap the reign in as quickly for me!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Numbers 6: 23 Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the way you shall bless the Israelites. Say to them: The Lord bless you, and keep you [protect you, sustain you, and guard you]; The Lord make His face shine upon you [with favor], And be gracious to you [surrounding you with lovingkindness];The Lord lift up His countenance (face) upon you [with divine approval],And give you peace [a tranquil heart and life]. 27 So Aaron and his sons shall put My name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them.

And this we do and proclaim and agree in Jesus name. Amen.

throw us...throw US (United States) under the bus. Double meaning. But He does throw up too. (church of Laodicea - spew out of His mouth)
