Moscow, April 25, Interfax - Signatures for the legal protection of life from the moment of conception and for banning abortions to be held on April 30, on the Easter eve, in churches of Russia.
"Signatures will be collected with the blessing of the spiritual guide of His Holiness the patriarch elder Eli (Nozdrin)," press service of the For Life Movement told Interfax-Religion.
Organizers expect to collect several thousand signatures at each parish: on the Easter eve churches will be full of believers who come to bless Easter cakes and eggs.
"By now, we have collected 200,000 signatures, our objective is to collect a million signatures," the interviewee of the agency said.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia earlier suggested excluding abortions from the system of compulsory medical insurance speaking at the State Duma and the Federation Council. Today 29 crisis centers for pregnant women and mothers with children work in the Russian Church. Over 5.5 thousand women received various kind of help in these church centers in 2015.
For years, Catholics have been praying the rosary for the conversion of Russia. Now it seems like the Russians should return the favor!
They might be the first to actually ban it after it has been legal. If the spiritual rejuvenation is legit, they would have two reasons, the other being a huge demographic hole in the population from back in the early 90s when there was a peak of around like 280 abortions per 100 live births. They only got to 100 abortions per 100 live births in the early 2000s, if I recall.
