Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Character Studies From The Bible

Peter

(The Gospel According to Mark)

29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

(Mark 1)

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

In 1984, I visited Capernaum on the Sea of Galilee in Israel. The ruins of a 1st Century Synagogue dominate the area. The beautiful, well-preserved stones of the Synagogue have many recognizable symbols carved into the stones that identify it unequivocally as a Jewish House of Worship.

Nearby, a smaller ruin was being exposed by archaeologists. It had been a small octagonal church, with a smaller foundation inside that one, and yet, a smaller one inside that, like nesting boxes. It was as if generations of people had erected shrines and churches of increasing size on the spot of a tiny fisherman's shack. Researchers finally came to the conclusion that it had been Simon Peter's house, where he lived with his Mother-In-Law. The Gospels never mention a wife, so it is possible that Peter was widowed. Yet, he continued to live with his Mother-In-Law and take care of her.

This tells us a lot about his character!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"Christ Healing The Mother Of Simon Peter"
John Bridges (1818-1854)

_ ND forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.

And all the city was gathered together at the door.

And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.

They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
