New curriculum from Care Net equips churches to address abortion

Church leaders wonder how they can address abortion in the church without crushing the spirits of the many post-abortive women sitting in the room. Unfortunately, many churches have often avoided the topic altogether, but a new curriculum from Care Net is designed to help churches effectively address the crisis of abortion.

If anyone knows how to address the issue of abortion in the church, it’s Care Net: “Founded in 1975, Care Net supports one of the largest networks of pregnancy centers in North America and runs the nation’s only real-time call center providing pregnancy decision coaching.” And now that coaching will move to the church building.

Last fall, Care Net and Life Way Research “found that women go silently from the church to abortion clinics. Almost 4 in 10 women who have had an abortion were churchgoers when they had the abortion.”

Screen Shot 2016-03-14 at 12.01.58 AMThe research also found that 35% of post-abortive women currently attend church once a week or more. Thus, church is the obvious place to reach women both as they consider abortion, and in ministering to those who have previously had abortions. And the new curriculum from Care Net seeks to reach this vast but underserved population in today’s churches.

Care Net says the need for this “Church Initiative” is clear:

At Care Net, we believe that “life decisions need life support,” and the church is God’s instrument to provide life support to women, men, and families to empower them to choose life for their unborn children and abundant life for their families.

James 1:27 compels us to care for orphans (who are children without fathers) and widows (who are women without husbands). Accordingly, God created His church to, among other things, fight to protect the unborn, end abortion, and strengthen families.

Citing the many churches in areas where abortion facilities thrive, Care Net notes that these churches have an extraordinary opportunity to reach those before them in the pews.

Making Life Disciples (MLD)will equip the Church to provide compassion, hope, help, and discipleship to women and men considering abortion. MLD is a 6-part DVD curriculum for the church that will give your church everything it needs to start a pregnancy care ministry at your church. You will be guided by leaders of the pro-life and pregnancy center movements on how to set up your ministry, how to work with women and men facing pregnancy decisions, how to partner with pregnancy centers, and how to make disciples for Christ through the work of ministering to women and men during a time of great need.

Care Net is hoping that many churches will decide to become “Life Affirming Churches” and use this curriculum to reach many women–and men–and save many babies’ lives.

The women that I knew that had abortions suffered terribly spiritually and mentally for years. I’m not in contact with them anymore.

Fell in love with one of them but she began cutting towards the end and I couldn’t help her.

Apparently though, a website was started where a lot of women could anonymously write that they were relieved, went out the same night, were happy, etc.

sick pups.

I’ve seen some of those websites. Be leery of those. Okay some women are “relieved” but I suspect a lot of those are written by Planned Parenthood or other abortion providing business. ie they are fake!! I’ve read enough that I can spot the true ones and the fake ones.

You see this thing all the time when looking up reviews on products at Lowe’s or Home Depot (or other stores). I can tell when someone is really giving their opinion and when it’s a fake rating.

I CANT BELEIVE you just said that!

I work overnight so I’m trying to doze off watching a HORRIBLE horror movie, of which there are many, and the “valued reviews” always give them four stars lol!!

everyone else gives one.

I see about one good one out of three.

getting back to the issue at hand, what you say makes sense.

I didn’t know ONE that was ok mentally. They were either mentally ill before OR after.

I was REALLY in love with Stephanie but taking on a lifetime partner who cuts? I just didn’t know how to help her.

BTW, Steph didn’t know I knew she had an abortion.

She would always say God is punishing me and he always will!!

I said God forgives, but she couldn’t forgive herself.

There is an abyss between being a churchgoer and being a Christian. I say that being a former CARE NET counselor.

First of all dude CHILL OUT.

Yes I said that. You started a website and people posted on it. Okay? However you said it was “where a lot of women could anonymously write”. So you don’t know who is doing it correct? It could be anyone and I mean ANYONE! I have been on a lot of those websites. A lot put up by pro life people!

Remember I post a lot in here so I read A LOT! There is stuff I’ve read that I’ve never posted!

I have seen the ones “written” by someone claiming they did not regret their abortion! You know what? It looks to me like it came from Planned Parenthood’s playbook! You have to use discernment when reading these things even on a pro life web page because I promise you the wolves come there too!!

We had a healing service for women who have had an abortion, but we promoted it as for everyone who had lost a child. This was to reduce the embarrassment of those needing healing from abortion. This service was open to the community, and over fifty women showed up. There was a great deal of “heavy” crying - along with forgiveness - as each person stood before Christ and accepted their renewed blessing. This was a couple of years ago - time for us to do this again.
