A certain current trend in auto-brainwashing is to assert that "All Wars Are Started by Religions!"

But consider the actual record of killing by the messianic, atheistic, secular humanist regimes of the 20^th century, as recorded at the University of Hawaii's Freedom, Democide, War, Power Kills website.

Mao killed 70 million, Stalin killed 60 million, Hitler killed 20 million, the 30 Years War, brought to you by "the people who start all wars", killed: 5.75 million, 3.8% of the Big Three 20^th century total.

But all this is infinitesimal in comparison with the incalculable death toll of the innocent unborn—if they're not Persons, neither are you—at the hands of Marie Stopes, Margaret Sanger, NARAL, NAF, the Rockefeller Population Foundation, the Ford Foundation and UNFPA–easily half a billion, with no end in sight.

It is not really fair to say that religion was the CAUSE of WW2. That is blaming the victims.

Anyway, it is a ridiculous claim. What religion cause the Vietnam War? What religion caused Japan to attack Pearl Harbor?

Even in examples where religion was a factor, did it CAUSE it? That’s just leftist wishful thinking.

Islime apologists love to point at the Crusades and the Inquisition as "evidence" that Christianity is every bit as barbaric. Setting aside the fact that the last Crusade occurred 750 years ago and that the Inquisition's heyday was in the 16th century, muslimes killed more people last year than the latter did in its entire existence. And the Crusades were largely a response to the rapid expansion of islime into Europe. The atrocities committed by the Crusaders were matched body for body by those committed by 'slimes.

It’s churlish to blame religion for modern day wars, except for the one glaring exception that we are only beginning to deal with. The burgeoning war with Islam will probably be the last religious war ever, as religion itself goes into asymptotic decline, converging on zero.

Once again, people are confusing a religion with an all-embracing IDEOLOGY, of which religion may play a minor role if any at all.

Islam is a full-blown ideology, much as the Nationalist Socialist German Workingmens’ Party that was in control of Germany from its ascent to power in 1933 until its collapse in 1945, after one of the bloodiest and most destructive wars in all history. Islam wants to surpass the achievements of the Nazi Regime in all ways possible, but they have this incredible internal schism that prevents the consolidation and amalgamation of their final objectives, the World Caliphate.

That does not mean, however, that they cannot bring huge mischief and chaos to the remainder of the world in the course of carrying out their internal dissent.

Their grievances with each other shall never be resolved, but meanwhile, a considerable amount of collateral damage is inflicted on the rest of the world.

It's certainly not fair to say religion causes most major wars or death by wars. As you've pointed out lack of religion causes plenty.

But Islam stands alone as a cause of many wars. <

I have no stats, but I would bet the total number of deaths in the name of a religion or deity, since 3000 BCE, far exceeds the numbers I see here. Mayan sacrifice, Zeus et al., Crusades, reformation, inquisition, add them up.
