Singapore Archbishop Warns Flock Against Madonna Concert

Singapore (AFP) - Singapore's Roman Catholic archbishop has expressed concern at an upcoming concert by pop diva Madonna in the city-state and warned his flock against supporting those who "denigrate and insult religions".

Archbishop William Goh said in a statement posted on the diocese website on Saturday that he had met various government officials to express the church's concerns about the February 28 concert, part of her global Rebel Heart Tour.

The concert, at the 55,000-seat National Stadium, will be Madonna's first-ever in largely conservative Singapore.

She was barred from performing in Singapore in 1993 after police said her performances bordered on the obscene and were "objectionable to many on moral and religious grounds".

Goh said that in a multi-ethnic society like Singapore "we cannot afford to be overly permissive in favour of artistic expression at the expense of respect for one's religion".

Authorities have assured the archbishop that restrictions have been placed to ensure that content deemed offensive to religious beliefs would not be allowed on stage, the church statement said.

The Media Development Authority has restricted the concert to those aged 18 and above because of sexual references.

People should be warned against wasting their money.

These days, this worn out old mattress's performance should be banned on the grounds of abuse of the elderly -- herself.

She's at least a quarter of a century past the point where I'd have to be paid some coin to see her. Considerable coin.

Wouldn’t it have been simpler for the Archbishop to point out that Madonna is well-past her sell-by date?

Where do they get enough Tanis leaves to keep her moving? By now they must be denuding entire Tanis bushes. Maybe throwing in some Bay and Eucalyptus leaves to help mask the funky stench as well.

For guys Madonna could go onto the stage, dressed in her usual "costume" and begin snorting, f*r*ing and otherwise exploding from inner gases...and they would LOVE it.
Such are males.

This holds true for girls and stupid, moronic women who REEEEEAAAALLLY like Madonna because she is sssssooooooo cooool.
One HOPES that the girls grow up and, most do.
For those WOMEN who love Madonna, there is NO hope. They are doomed to be idiots disappointed when Madonna finally disappears. THAT time will come when the best cosmetic surgeons on the planet and those from outer space FINALLY tell her: No more, dearie, or your face skin will have to be tied in a KNOT on the back of your head.

.

I'm SURE that she is SO nice in person but on stage she is SUCH a waste of time. :o)

As far as I know no protests here in Manila. But her logo with a single sword in her heart is obviously mocking the Virgin Mary...however the artwork she is mocking is not one seen here in the Phlilippines so the locals might not realize it. The icon she is mocking is one popular in Quito Ecuador...

I am guessing Tangle of Manila doesn't want to get criticized like what Manny Paquiao is going through.either that or I missed the story in the newspaper.

She is 57 years old. The only ones who care about her NOW are 80 year old codgers. :o)
