Contra Francis - The Law of God is Perfect (Psalm 19:7)

We've been thinking over the confusion coming out of Pope Francis' latest in-flight interview and the danger that this poses to souls throughout the world; exacerbated as this all is by the many sensationalist headlines breaking everywhere, by Fr. Lombardi's deepening of the problem and by the silence of the world's bishops and priests.

We want to offer a few pointers to help anyone who may be feeling confused, let-down or even shaken in their faith.

1. Know that the Magisterium of the Church has consistently affirmed the truth relating to the use of contraceptives according to natural and divine law. The use of contraceptives remains an intrinsic evil in its very essence. Neither a shoddy in-flight interview, nor the ideas of a press ''spokes-priest'' can change any of that. Indeed, even Pope Francis spoke of avoidance of pregnancy as an evil; when he spoke in terms of it being a ''lesser evil'' than abortion.

2. The one good thing to come out of this is that numbers of Catholics who have until now maintained a ''respectful silence'' have begun to finally speak out to defend the Faith and the salvation of souls. Don't remain silent, but stand up for Christ's truth.

3. Humanae Vitae teaches with Magisterial authority: ''Similarly excluded is every action which, either in anticipation of the conjugal act, or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, purposes, whether as an end or a means, to render procreation impossible'' (HV 14).

4. We know from natural and divine law, and from the clear teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas, that one may not do an act which is intrinsically evil; even if the motive and intended outcome is good. We follow natural and divine law; not the kind of utilitarian/situational ethics, which claim to seek the supposed lesser of two evils.

5. During a previous in-flight interview near to the start of Advent, Pope Francis answered a similar question regarding condom-use and the AIDS virus. At that time, he suggested that the Church faced ''a bit of a predicament between the 5th and 6th Commandment.'' This time around he has used stronger language to speak of a ''conflict'' between those two Commandments.

On 1st December 2015, we responded to that notion by recalling that God's Law is perfect. In the light of God's truth and helping Grace, there can be no conflict between keeping all of the tenets of God's Holy Law. Although due to sin, human limitation and faulty customs or habits, there might be times when things seems unclear, obedience to the Church's constant Magisterium, prayer and obedience always provide the sure way. This needs to be affirmed from the heights today.

6. The Church has clearly and consistently taught that, where grave reasons exist, it is permissable to resort to natural means of avoiding pregnancy. The rate of pregnancy avoidance through such natural means is by now, when a couple is sufficiently prepared and committed, statistically as high as the contraceptive Pill at avoiding pregnancy. (Recall though, that all Pill use has an abortifacient component).

7. If you are prepared to ignore 2,000 years of Tradition to risk your immortal soul by resorting to condoms, or, worse still, abortifacient ''contraceptives'', based on the problematic words of a man not known for his teaching precision, then don't expect us to join you in that risk.

8. Two further asides:-

A). In terms of the Donald Trump issue, the Church acknowledges the right of nations to their sovereignty and the uprightness of national law. To call Trump out for ''not being Christian'', whilst approving of mass-murdering Communists like the Castros, and telegraphing the pro-abortion Obama from the same aeroplane causes further confusion and scandal.

B). To suggest that the Pope cannot interfere with politics in terms of issues like ''gay'' civil-unions in Italy, denies the natural and divine law and the Universal Kingship of Jesus Christ. It is also self-contradictory when one has just critiqued the political policies of Donald Trump.

9. Crossing the Atlantic in an aeroplane, we once watched the movies Kind Hearts and Coronets and Valkyrie. These would surely be far safer pursuits for a Pontiff to pursue when so high in the sky. Those and the Holy Rosary.

The Law of the Lord is unspotted converting souls: the testimony of the Lord is faithful, giving wisdom to little ones (Psalm 19:7).

Whoops, Grampa. I mistakenly thought you found the author of the article as the loser. My humblest apologies. Please ignore my most previous post, but I hope you enjoy the video.
