Change your bad habits by not giving in to urges. You think your urge is strong and has power. It is strong, but it doesn't have inherent power because the urge is armless and legless desire that, for example, forces you to run the red light.
Do not focus on the strength of the urge because if you consider yourself as a child of God and call Him "Our Father," then know, that "the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." (1 John. 4:4) These are just common ways the devil attacks you, especially during prayers.
How To Change The Bad Habit
When the urge comes, know that this desire of doing something bad is a temporary thought. And because these sinful thoughts are temporary, you have a choice. They may always come and go. You have two choices: to give in or wait them out with prayer. When you renounce it, do not look back. Read the entire article in the original source here.

Why didn’t you post the entire article for us?

Problem solved, then.
Urges are temporary thoughts.
I came to realize that when I finally committed to quit smoking.
After the first day without, I began to notice some things.
1. My hard cravings came only about 3 times per day: around 10:30 am, 2:30 pm, and 7:30 pm.
2. My hard cravings lasted only about 15 seconds and then subsided.
I convinced myself that I could last through that 15 seconds three times per day.
A week without passed. Two weeks. A month.
During that time, my cravings got milder and eventually subsided completely.
But, at about 6 months without, all of the sudden, the cravings were back and hitting hard. I resisted. I noticed they followed basically the same pattern (15 second three times per day). I resisted — not even a curiosity puff. In a couple of weeks, the cravings were basically gone.
That all started in late January 2003. I just started my 13th year of being a non-smoker.
Post the whole article, since it’s yours.
Why does the link not work?
I don’t know. I think Google considers it a duplicate content. Doesn’t it? I saw some others post excerpts that’s why.
What a great testimony. Thank you very much. Do you mind commenting under the article too? So readers there see it and get encouraged and inspired. Apostle Paul says, resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Here is a similar and another way to quit smoking or any addiction.

It works here. Which one doesn’t work? If no, just go to my blog ArmenHareyan.com
perfect timing for me...
None of them work. Never mind.
But the urge to pimp one’s blog is permanent.
It's your article. Just cut and paste the entire thing (remove smart quotes first). Then FReepers can just read it here, cleanly and without animation or flash. Then readers can comment here and you can reply here. You've been given a soapbox, so use it.
Some sources only allow posting an excerpt. Some only allow links to their content. As the author you can post the entire article. However, you can also link to it in case some readers would like to read more of your articles.
I encourage you to keep sharing positive encouragement for Christians. There is a lot of negativity these days. Your article is very good and insightful.
The link works. Thanks
Self discipline is becoming a rarity. It’ s completely out of fashion. There’s an entire demographic that celebrates the lack of it.
“Urges Are Temporary Thoughts....”
That’s what Buddhists teach. Are you with the Hiniyana or Mahayana sect? Not condemning you but just curious.
Congratulations.
I quit cigarettes 34 years ago.
:)
A very good article. Thank you for posting!
NO.
You can post the whole mess right here.
Pimp.
