On Elvis, people were exactly right who objected to what he was doing, saying it would lead to much worse things. It certainly has.
And somehow him doing that has been used ever since then in an argument for desensitization. When people object to sexual depravity in entertainment today, other people will bring up Elvis, in essence arguing that what they are finding offensive today, like performances by Miley Cyrus or appearances by Kim Kardashian, one will day seem like nothing once people become desensitized to it.
