Heh... :)
I’m close to a woman who was close to Bowie. She told me in her last 30 telephone calls with him over the past few years he always ended it with God bless you. For the last 25 years he was a private, sober, hard working married man.
Thoughtful post. Thanks.
Interesting, Iman Tweeted shortly after his death, “The struggle is real, but so is God”
I think Ashes to Ashes was warning about drug addiction. “I want an axe to break the ice I want to come down right now”
Then...”My mother say’s to get things done you better not mess with Major Tom”
From what I’ve read he was so prolific on the past few years we be hearing new recordings of his for years to come.
You can say whatever you want. That’s your choice.
On Elvis, people were exactly right who objected to what he was doing, saying it would lead to much worse things. It certainly has.
And somehow him doing that has been used ever since then in an argument for desensitization. When people object to sexual depravity in entertainment today, other people will bring up Elvis, in essence arguing that what they are finding offensive today, like performances by Miley Cyrus or appearances by Kim Kardashian, one will day seem like nothing once people become desensitized to it.
Whatever he said and did in private, he nevertheless composed the last album that he did.
And this song that I looked at closely is a public repudiation of the God of the Bible.
Jesus said, “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32-33)
Now God will be the judge of David Bowie, as He is each of us. But what we are to use God’s Word for is to discern if the guidance of others is to be followed or rejected. Are they leading us towards God, and pointing us and other people to Him, or doing the opposite?
This is no small matter, because God has commanded and left Christians to be His light in the world since Jesus is in Heaven, and left us with the Great Commission:
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
