Moscow, January 18, Interfax - Russian sculptors have frozen the project of a Christ statue in Syria.

"We were planning [it], and there were talks to create a Christ statue of a relevantly large size. As of now, it has been frozen at the stage of a working 8-meter model, which was planned to be enlarged afterwards. Perhaps, it's pointless talking about this story, as nobody knows where the current events will eventually lead," Russian People's Artist sculptor Salavat Shcherbakov said in a live broadcast of the Russkaya Sluzhba Novostey (Russian News Service) radio.

Shcherbakov also revealed that another statue of Christ, which was designed by him and Andrey Kovalchuk, was materialized by Armenian sculptors in Syria's Angels Monastery. The statue was shelled [though] with grenade launchers during hostilities and its eventual fate remains unknown.

A sculpture by Alexander Rukavishnikov portraying Paul the Apostle was also installed in Syria, Shcherbakov said. There is no information either about whether the statue still exists. Also, one of the Syrian churches had a dome presented by Russian Tsar Nicholas II.

Sometimes I think we have entered the Twilight Zone. Russia seeking to erect a statue of Christ in Syria, while America forbids even the mention of Christ in in any government run facility.

Russians erecting the statue of Christ on Holy Land would be abomination of a apocalyptic proportion. Their deceitful nature won’t allow for outright Satan worship, but they always find the way to desecrate the Holy.

May God bless Russia - one of the few nations protecting Christianity in the Middle East.

A friend of mine was in Russia doing research for a book and she visited an Orthodox chapel. In the chapel were these very ornate candle-holders hanging from the ceiling. She looked at who had donated them and found the names of kings and queens and other royalty, but she noticed one that was not quite as ornate in fact it was quite plain compared to all the others. She looked to see who had donated that one. - Mr. and Mrs. Vladimir Putin.

True enough.

Erecting a statue of Jesus in Muslim Syria would be a real slap in the face of Muslims. There's no need to rub people's noses in conquest.
However, the Russians do exactly what they want and the rest of the world be d****d.

Before the 7th century Syria used to be Christian. Indeed before the advent of Obama & ISIS Syria still had a large Christian population.

Things change. Islam can and must be rolled back. There’s no need to worry about insulting their murderous rapist death-cult.

Russia is making a statement about the future of Syria, not just with guns and bombs, but with the image of the Son of God. Good for them!

The sixth century was a LONG time ago. MOST Muslims are NOT Arabs. The LARGEST Muslim country is INDONESIA. (Google)

I don't really even know what you mean by "rolled back" when speaking about Islam. Are you sure that all 1.6 billion Muslims think like those ISIS aholes? Are YOU advocating demanding that people CANNOT be Muslims?

I wonder why you think that Russia should have ANY say about Syria and/or their faith. Russia ruled their Soviet Republic for a long time and DEMANDED godlessness and even IT came tumbling down, thanks to one RONALD REAGAN.

I'm not condemning your opinions, just wondering about them. You are sure entitled to condemn who and whatever you want. After all your call sign means: TO ACT AGAINST.
