Dear Mrs. Don-o,
Along the same topic, an essay was posted a few days ago on Gates of Vienna. The discussion which followed received well over 300 comments; not simple one-liners but statements and arguments, for or against, men defending women under attack - a startling departure from social norms. I didn’t make it halfway through before having to quit, wondering; Is this happening?

On a happy note, the moderator has thoughtfully edited those words which give offence to ladies of good character.

I went to the link and I see what you mean. Yow. Painful. I've seen this at FR too. For many people, the relations between "man" and "woman" have degenerated into messes of accusation, anger, contempt, bitterness, disappointment and sadness.

That has never been true for me or the people closest to me. The men around me (father's generation; brother's and husband's generation; son's generation) have always been men who love women; and women who respect men. Maybe I live a charmed life. I'm often shocked by how callous and cynical it is "out there."

Even amongst people who call themselves conservatives.
