“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” Jesus - 33 A.D.
This premise is ridiculous. Who were the first people who heard the preaching of Christ and the Apostles? The Jews. Of, course, they need to hear the good news of the Gospel. — my opinion!
Exactly!
**The new document from the Vatican’s Commission for Religious Relations with Jews stressed recent Vatican teachings that the two religions were intertwined and that God had never annulled his covenant with the Jewish people.**
That’s true.
Well that’s OK. Getting them converted to being Catholic won’t get them into heaven anyway. The one and only way into heaven is through God’s Son Jesus Christ who paid the penalty for the sins of all mankind with His death on the cross, the innocent for the guilty. Without Christ anyone and everyone will end up in hell forever. It is absolute hate to not pray for and tell someone about Christ.
**âTherefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.â**
Exactly — straight from Jesus mouth to the apostles before the Ascension.
Yes we all get that. I think God has his own covenant with the Jews. I would not waste one moment of your time here on Earth worrying about the Jews. They will be just fine.
Thank you. On this we agree. The Scripture is clear!
Ignore me.
Francis is saying that Jews are not full human beings and thus should not have the Gospel preached to them. Unfortunately, Jesus told us to preach the Gospel to all men, including the Jews, but I guess Pope Francis knows better than Our Lord.
That doesn’t mean force and it never did - the Inquisition was not directed at Jews, but at supposed Jewish or Muslim converts who had done so only to marry or for expediency and didn’t believe the Faith and corrupted others. Isabella made the Jews leave - although she permitted the Muslim farm workers but not the leaders to stay - because there were trade-rival provoked riots throughout Spain (other Spaniards felt that the Crown favored the Jews too much) and she could no longer honor her part of the fuero, that is, the charter for a city or group that governed its relationship to to the Crown, bcause she could in longer protect the Jews.
Their property was held, the Crown sold it and then sent them the money wherever they were.
However, in the case of the Muslim peasants who were allowed to stay, Muslims from North Africa started arming them and they attacked Christians up and down the Mediterranean coast. Finally, they were Expelled from Spain in the early 17th century, although some “peaceful Muslims” remained and were tolerated until they died out in the 18th century.
Th interesting thing is that many of Spain’s best known saints - such as St John of the Cross and St Teresa of Avlla - were from convert Jewish families. Also, Cardinal Cisneros, the spiritual advisor of Isabella and a brilliant man, founder of one of the earliest universities in Europe, was from a converso family.
But I guess Francis doesn’t know or care about that. Anyway, he hates Spain almost as much as he hates the US, so he’s probably using this as an occasion to kick descendants of Spanish Jews in the teeth.
I’m not losing any sleep over it; by the time we know who is right we can’t go back & change anything we’ve done or professed. We are in no position to question Jesus or His words, though I think excluding anyone from conversion does them a terrible (and eternal) disservice.
“It is absolute hate to not pray for and tell someone about Christ.”
Very well put. They may do with that knowledge what they will (Jesus certainly never chased anyone down trying to force them to accept Him), but to refuse to evangelize them is evil - and certainly nothing Jesus intended. He sent Jews out to convert Jews and others; the Gentiles rejoiced when they were welcomed.
He is also kicking in the teeth of the first Jewish converts to Christianity - the Apostles.
The scriptures say to preach to everyone, including Jews. To be brutally honest, the Jews don’t have Christ, and you need Christ to be saved. So why wouldn’t you do your best to bring everyone, Jews included, to Him?
....the Catholic Church has always been accustomed to pray for the Jewish people, who were the depository of divine promises up until the arrival of Jesus Christ, notwithstanding their subsequent blindness, or rather, because of this very blindness. Moved by that charity, the Apostolic See has protected the same people from unjust ill-treatment, and just as it censures all hatred and enmity among people, so it altogether condemns in the highest degree possible hatred against the people b>once chosen by God, viz., the hatred that now is what is usually meant in common parlance by the term known generally as âanti-Semitism.â - Cum Supremae (1928)

Sorry I messed up the formatting....I hope one day this forum will allow us to edit our posts.
Yes. Those of us who know the Catholic Faith as it was taught prior to Vatican II know that, in this point, you are correct. The Catholic Faith agrees with Scripture. Post Vatican II Catholics do not know the Catholic Faith because it has been messed with these last 50+ years. As a result, they ignorantly agree with the heresy espoused in the OP.
Kumbaya.
And in the Easter Vigil prayers, they are still prayed for.
