Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Character Studies From The Bible
Paul
54.When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55.But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56.Look, (he said,) I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.
57.At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58.dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59.While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. 60.he fell on his knees and cried out, Lord, do not hold this sin against them. When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Bartolomeo Montagna - Saint Paul
We open our study of St. Paul with the martyrdom of Stephen, one of the first Deacons, and the first Christian Martyr. The word is from the Greek, and means WITNESS, and is a different meaning than its current usage. Paul is introduced to us as Saul, who holds the coats of those throwing the rocks that murder Stephen. This is highly symbolic, as it shows us that those who abet, or even approve evildoing are just as guilty as the ones who carry out the evil deed. What an introduction to this complex character!
I want to thank everybody for their kind condolences and prayers during this rough season in my life, especially ConorMacNessa, whyo completed the study of Nehemiah for us, and kept the thread going! ((((HUGS))))

Numbers 6:23 (HCSB) 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:
Numbers 6:24 (HCSB) 24 May Yahweh bless you and protect you;
Numbers 6:25 (HCSB) 25 may Yahweh make His face shine on you and be gracious to you;
Numbers 6:26 (HCSB) 26 may Yahweh look with favor on you and give you peace.
Numbers 6:27 (HCSB) 27 In this way they will pronounce My name over the Israelites, and I will bless them.”
