Sometimes our poor efforts as earthly fathers do provide a small glimmer of the awesome nature of our all-powerful, loving Heavenly Father.
Today we took all the kids to a park they love which is near family we're visiting. It's kind of a tradition to go there every couple of years when we're out here.
Anyhow, this park has a rope climb in the shape of a big pyramid. It's the top draw of this particular place. It's fairly safe, although it really is very high. The top of the pyramid is probably forty to fifty feet off the ground.
Siena and I were a hundred feet away playing with the smaller children, while Sam and Elijah and Sebastian were climbing around on the pyramid with a whole bunch of other neighborhood kids. Suddenly I felt prompted to go over and check on the bigger kids. Elijah was fine. He wandered off to do something else. Sam was fine. He was standing securely maybe six feet off the ground, just having fun. But as I watched Sebastian, who is seven, he climbed higher and higher, until he was up near the top. He seemed fine, but I kept watch. He started to work his way back down, and presently, when he was still at least twenty-five feet off the ground, he got himself into a position where he was hanging off of a rope, but couldn't get a grip with his feet. It took me about two seconds to realize he was in serious trouble. I moved quickly around to the side he was on and started telling him, "hold on, Sebastian. Don't let go." And I quickly started climbing towards him. I probably told him to "hang on tight, I'm coming" half a dozen times on the way up. I could see the fear on his face. Anyhow, he held on, I quickly got to where he was, put my arms around him and said, "I've got you, son." He relaxed his grip, and I set him with his feet securely on the ropes. He climbed down and we gathered up all the kids and went home.
How often are we like that? How often to we precociously get ourselves in a jam, only to have the Lord, whose Eyes are ever upon us His foolish children, come to our rescue once again? Probably more often than we would ever admit, and probably a whole lot more than we even realize.
Jude 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Thank You for your Fatherly care and for your promptings to an earthly father, LORD.
Because of Your constant care for us, what could have been a horrible tragedy was nothing more than an enjoyable day in the park.
The son will remember that all his life. He might even do the same thing for his own son someday.
God caught me so many times but I fell so often he was bound to miss once.
Now he’s helping me climb up out of the hole I fell into.
FR helps alot with that. A refuge of friends and patriots when I need a break from climbing.
Glad the kid was ok :)
May God bless and keep you.
Not to be overlooked, or minimized in this story is the promptings of the Holy Spirit that caused you to walk over and take inventory of the children.
Indeed.
You rock bro.
I truly believe that Our Heavenly Father is there when we need him. Good story!
Me too! Thanks!
Thanks. God has given me great kids. They’re worth protecting.
You know, now that I think about it, I don’t talk about my kids much on FR these days. There are a lot of things I don’t talk much about here these days. Been trolled too hard over the years, I guess. So a lot of personal stuff goes unsaid.
But this one had to be shared, I think.
Maybe the Religion forum is a safe space, huh?
haha...
:-)
Now I see where you got your Freeper name. Good story.
Thanks.
Of course I’m sure there are a few here who just figure it’s because I never shut up.
:-)
:):)
Keep up the good work!
A little different, persistent image comes again to mind:
After my Methodist minister Dad concluded the Sunday
service, he would often proceed to the rear of the sanctuary,
raise his hand, and solemnly bless the congregation with
this magnificent parting benediction.
I did not perceive then how safe I was in his care, as he was
in The Father's; but now I know he must often have
saved me from myself. Now, ages later, I know that
my Heavenly Father is much, much greater and powerful,
and I am safe forever.
Dad and Mom used to sing this little chorus at home:
Safe am I, Safe am I,
In the hollow of His hand;
Sheltered o'er, sheltered o'er
With His love forever more
No ill can harm me, No foe alarm me,
For He keeps both day and night,
Safe am I, Safe am I,
In the hollow of His hand.
