Hundreds of Mormons plan to resign from the church in Salt Lake City this weekend at a protest against a church policy barring the children of married same-sex couples from receiving baptism, organizers said on Thursday.

The policy, approved last week by leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, added same-sex marriage to the list of acts considered to be a renunciation of the Mormon faith and thus subject to church discipline, including excommunication.

I guess that would save them the trouble of kicking them out.

Every organization needs a purge from time to time. So if those that are purged self-select, that makes the task that much easier for the LDS elders.

There are already a LOT of splinter groups these people can go to. Not the first time some church doctrine has induced a split among members.

In other words, they aren’t really Mormons anyway.

No loss.

Surprised LDS, Inc....didn't spend some money to stop this "news"....

LDS, Inc...being worth between 5 and 20 BILLION dollars....you would think they might spend a bit.

But then again...they have their members mowing lawns and doing janitor duties....at their "churches".

It's all about the HIVE....

Why would they ban children of homosexual couples from baptism?

I don’t get this. If the child is heterosexual and professes their faith why do they punish them for the sins of those who raised them?

Am I missing something here?

The so called Mormon religion has hundreds of variants. Any time that any member disagrees with the ruling elders, they receive a revelation and a new branch springs forth. Revised doctrine ensues and all of the little children are taught the new truth. The evolution of doctrine and practice is a labyrinth. Makes the disagreements between Protestants and Catholics look like a discussion of where to go for dinner.

yes you are. But I have to meet my mates at the bar for TNF so I don’t have time to splain it to you. That being said.... when they reach 21 if hey wish..they can be baptized.

Yes. At a baptism the parents and others promise to raise a child in the Word of God. How can a “couple” that openly lives in sin make such a promise?

Because they don’t know their biology? Last I heard, homosexual couples couldn’t have children.

Apparently we both are. This certainly appears to be a violation of many Mormon beliefs. I'd like to see the actual text of this announcement - from a real Mormon source.

This is very odd.

It is not following Jesus Christ’s lead to deny baptism or any other sacrament based on what other people are doing. A child has no control on what the adults around them do. To punish them for the sins of the adults they are subject to is wrong, very wrong. The church will lose them.

I am a Roman Catholic. When I was young, I was an alter boy. My parents did not go to church, but I did. I turned out okay. As a young adult, I got into an argument with my pastor because he declared that any child whose parents didn’t attend his pre-first communion meeting could not receive first communion. I told him that as a young child, I came from a family where my parents didn’t partake of the religion or the sacraments. He said he didn’t care, that that was his rule and he was sticking to it. I told him he was wrong. We never spoke again.

Faggotry (just the act) and same sex “marriage” are certainly not Mormon practices.

But denying their kids (at age 8) baptism seems very odd and incongruous.
