But thanks be to God for the Lord’s Prayer and for the Holy Spirit. If it were not for these, the Church wouldn’t have lasted twenty minutes! But here we are more than two thousand years later, not without our troubles and tensions, but here and fundamentally united (with legitimate diversity). There is just no other way to describe the fundamental unity of the Catholic Church for all these years than as a miracle.

If No One is Pope, Everyone is Pope.

Boom shakalaka. Just like The Bible says, the Kingdom of Heaven is within you.

The tragic disunity of Christendom is not entirely the fault of the Protestants. We Catholics contributed to breaks that happened in the 12th century (with the Orthodox) and the 16th century (with the Protestants).

Wow...several FR Catholics would consider that hearsay and worthy of the rack at least...

I bet this would've brought great comfort to those dissidents rotting in Castro's jail while The Pope was being worshipped and adored a few days ago.

Fortunately, they'll never be able to read this.

No internet in those jails.

"Today we welcome Pope Francis to the United States. In so doing, we welcome more than just a popular public figure. We welcome someone whom the Lord prays for in a very special manner. Simon Peter and his successors enjoy a special charism to unite us, by the Lord’s prayer and grace. Let’s look at the scriptural foundation of this prayer and charism and see how essential the office of the pope is for us."

Speaking as a former Roman catholic who has been saved through a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ: What complete and undiluted heretical rubbish.

First of all, Christ prays for all of His saints with equal fervor, passion, and travail. No man is more or less worthy of God's favor, love, or even judgment.

Second of all, Peter did not have any "special charism." Rather, he was filled with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, as evidenced in the book of Acts. All who call on Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior receive the Holy Spirit as a deposit guaranteeing their inheritance, a counsel, teacher, and even battle partner (paraclete).

It was not upon a man (Peter) that the Church was built, but rather the man's faith.

Finally: The Pope is as essential to the faith and salvation of mankind as a premoistened towelette is to a gunfight. He is nothing more than a sinful man, elected by other sinful men, to be magically transformed into some supposed "vicar of Christ" (an office that not even Christ himself mentioned or created).

If you want answers, look to the wellspring of truth and salvation who is the Lord Jesus Christ, and reject the doctrine of men and demons.

As Deitrich Bonhoeffer famously said: "Christ plus anything is Antichrist; Christ minus anything is Antichrist."

“And Jesus’ plan is not to write a book and then just hope that everyone follows it and interprets it in the same way.”

Let’s get this straight. You grab your doctrine of succession from a book, then run off and build a system around it (with other bits you grabbed from the book) and then turn around and pooh-pooh the book when it rebukes you to your face?

No way to treat a book Jesus had ANYTHING to do with, Charles.

To give everyone a heads up on just Who it is they’re messing with when they in any way denigrate the authority and power of Scripture, consider this:

“And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.””—Galatians 3:8

and again

“But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.”—Galatians 3:22

Scripture issues forth from God. Dismiss it, crib from it, manipulate others with it, obscure it, exaggerate it at your peril.

No more than anybody else. No more than any precious child

In fact he wont stand up for the unborn and he wont condemn teaching children that homosexuality is a option for them.

The Pope should be on his knees asking for God`s mercy

There has been a Christian revival for years, and outside of the Charismatic Catholic movement, the Catholic Church has totally missed out on it. Before this is mistaken for Catholic bashing, this is true of the mainline Churches in general.

The real Christian Churches have no divisions on belief, no nonsense such as it`s ok to be pro choice or for gay marriage etc.

The Pope will have no altar call because he dopes not know what one is, If Billy or Franklin Graham had a audience like this, they would offer a altar call , thousands upon thousands would invite Jesus into their life, there would be no mention of climate change etc

They would all be told they are sinners (I am a sinner saved by grace) they would be told that they will have to repent from the homosexual lifestyle, they will have to walk away from those unholy relationships completely.

Nobody is going to be saved from the Popes message (me thinks) but if it was Franklin Graham people would be on their knees and be overcome by the Holy Spirit

This is so tragic
