It was painful to hear but ultimately seemed the best course to Jessica Mann and her family. Because of a dangerous tumor in her brain, her doctor gently suggested that she take steps to make sure that she could not get pregnant again.
So Mann, 33, who is due to have her third baby next month, decided that while she was under anesthesia during the birth, she would undergo a tubal ligation a procedure that would prevent further pregnancies.
But her hospital said no. Genesys Regional Medical Center, which is Catholic, denied the request on religious grounds: Catholic mandates forbid procedures that cause sterilization, including vasectomies, and officials said she did not qualify for an exception.

Apparently, Lincoln did NOT end slavery!
So, go to another hospital.
Why? Surely there was no way of knowing that this hospital does not do this. /sarc.
Catholic Hospitals have never done these procedures. People went to other hospitals and never complained.
Another case of “Hospital Litigation Agenda Shopping”
Of course.
Go to another bakery. Go to another Justice of the Peace.
Is this complicated?
Was there an explanation for why this procedure was necessary or was she put on the high risk list because reasons (i.e. legal liability).
Another service provider??? *sputter* NO! All must doing exactly what I want, when I want it, in the manner proscribed by ME or I WILL SUE!
Don’t like Catholic hospitals? Don’t go to one. Problem solved.
This is just one of the reasons that I did not deliver my child at a catholic hospital
The hospital should not have delayed their decision from May to September to decide whether to grant an exception or not.
She’s a month from delivery, and finding another hospital may not be possible at this point.
This isn’t an easy case, and as a Catholic and a pro-life worker, I’d like to have seen her find another place to deliver, but that looks much less likely due to the hospital’s delays.
I think it’s ideology pushing the catholic church
My mother had this procedure at a Catholic hospital in 1948.They determined she would be at risk with a subsequent pregnancy. The people made an error in their diagnosis, that made me an only child.
The Catholic Hospital is correct. She probably signed something when she went in that said she would go along with the hospital rules.
Can I sue the Halal lunch truck because they won’t sell me pork barbecue? I didn’t think so. It’s just not on the menu. Neither is getting her tubes tied. This entitled woman disgusts me - suing a hospital for following God’s word as they understand it is offensive beyond words.
[Note: I personally disagree with the Catholic interpretation of scripture on this point, but it is not my place to order them to obey me, not when they believe they are obeying God.]
