Col. Dondi E. Costin is not your usual military chaplain.
For starters, the former Pacific Air Forces command chaplain is being double-promoted to two-star general and will take over as chief of chaplains at Air Force headquarters at the Pentagon on Friday.

He finally switched to the chaplaincy in 1996 and said he has loved having the spiritual role ever since.
An engineer who seeks to care for souls.
None of what he says sounds like prayers to me. They sound like speeches to get attention.
I wonder if the Chaplain is in favor of marrying same sex couples. Anyone?
Uh oh...
Really?
Well, since the LCMS chaplains are getting flak because they oppose gay marriage I have to wonder about someone who lands a promotion in this climate.
I would also guess a black chaplain.
Active Duty ping.
Flag officers must be confirmed by the Senate.
Don't know if that applies to chaplains as well. Chaplain, do you know?
If it does, this could possibly be an appropriate question to be asked by somebody in the Senate Armed Forces committee.
Of equal importance is how he will deal with AF chaplains that may not approve of same sex "marriages" and those chaplains who wish to preach on certain parts of the Scriptures, such as Romans 1:20-28 and similar passages.
LCMS is not going to change their stance on this. We are biblical based. We would have to do a clinton “is, is” to ever read it in such a way. Aint gonna happen.
And if it does, thats the signal to leave.
Ya....diversity is chaos.
ruhroh
He must be gay and black!!!!
A major defense contractor has signs posted in their offices:
“Voicing our Values”
Which is ironic, because it really means SUPPRESSING MY VALUES, and endorsing the wholly unnatural diversity meme.
Hmmmm...
In recognition of the varied backgrounds and traditions celebrated by members of the 380th AEW, the luncheon included a Buddhist reading by Staff Sgt. J.G. Buzanowski, a Christian reading by Senior Master Sgt. Joseph San Nicolas, and a Latter-day Saints reading by 1st Lt. Robert Jeppesen. Lastly, the U.S. Air Forces Central Chaplain (Col.) Dondi Costin, took the floor.
“We live in a world where peace is a fragile thing,” Costin said. “Just about the time you think everything is going right in your life, something happens. But it’s when that something happens that determines who you are.”
No matter your faith or creed, the chaplain emphasized the need to have a positive mental attitude and a balanced perspective. Or as he put it, “Don’t worry, be happy.”
“Change is a normal part of life,” he said. “We will have bad days, but it is our responsibility to figure out how to be resilient enough to get through those days.”
Not much mention of God. Not ANY, to be more precise! Doesn’t sound like a Southern Baptist to me. More like a “feel good about yourself” type...yuck! But I doubt he’d be getting promoted like that unless his head was deeply entrenched in multiple GO butts, with a highly alert PC radar directing him.
I know one LCMS pastor here who is a retired chaplain, and ours is younger and decided to leave the Marines rather than become a chaplain. It is unfortunate but he chose wisely. LCMS has Operation Barnabas for the military but it is controlled by the Synod and not the government.
Nope. It's forbidden by the Southern Baptists. He must be the representative of his denomination according to their beliefs.
Hence the double promotion.
Can a 2 star perform exorcisms?
