Speaking corporately here, not personally:
Why should He? We've turned our backs on Him.
We need to turn back to Him before He'll have mercy on the US.
To put that another way, God does have mercy on us. He has not turned his back on the U.S., the U.S. has turned its back on him. The merciful nature of God is that he will be waiting for us if we ever turn back to him.
