Thomas Jefferson was influenced by John Locke,
whose philosophy echoed the Magna Carta
It is for freedom
that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then,
and do not let yourselves
be burdened again
by a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
----
The signing of the Magna Carta rippled throughout history,
setting the basis for English Common Law , and inspiring the American Revolution
as well as the Declaration of Independence , the US Constitution , and the Bill of Rights .
The principles placed limits on what our government can do.
Thus governments were to be in chains of their Constitution,
not the people in chains to their government.
Politics shifted from a government of men to a government of laws.
And below is a lesson as to how the Magna Carta
influenced the American government
in this 15 minute clip:

Magna Carta, English Bill of Rights, and American Government
------------------------------
Heavenly Father
We praise You as the Author of Liberty, the Purchaser of our Freedom, Deliverer from the clains of slavery to sin and death. We thank you for raising up Your people throughout the ages to fight for the Rights that You have given us and break the chains of slavery physically, morally, spiritually.
As we passed a watershed time in history, the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, we recognize Your Word is the Greatest Magna Carta. And Your Word is living and ripples from eternity past, bursts into the present and continues into eternity.
We lift up our beloved America, all her people will turn back to You, and remember that all our Rights come from You. Protect our heroes, home and abroad who put themselves in harms way to protect our freedoms and keep us safe.
May we declare our dependence on You, the Author of Freedom, Justice, Righteous Liberty. May we return to the faith of founders so that our nation may glorify Your Name. May America become a blessing in this world and the world to come.
In Jesus Name we pray,
Amen

Give thanks to the LORD,
for He is good;
His love endures forever.
Psalm 118:1 (NIV)
Keep praying for America
